Of course I also don´t know everything and we can only speculate about such very intricate details how much money each publisher contributed in 1977.
But as the recording sessions for ORCA in 1977 took place at the Orthophonic Recording Studio in Rome and as this was an Italian score I would think that the main contribution certainly came from the Italian music publisher Radiofilmusica. All the others then were only subordinate publishers.

Anyway, it is a bit strange that Warner Chappell in France did have a copy of the LP album master as in France in 1977 only a 45rpm single of ORCA with two tracks had been released. Maybe an LP had been planned and they did get the material for it from Radiofilmusica at that time?

You are mixing up the De Laurentiis production company with their music publishing company which in Italy is Radiofilmusica and which in most cases simply is not cooperative regarding CD releases.

Thanks for the clarifications. Looking at their 1965-1975 productions on IMDB, a good number of those have thankfully been released through Legend, and for others I have the LP (The Valachi Papers, Lo scopone scientifico) or there doesn't seem to be a right issue (Le streghe, Menage all'italiana). There a are a few outstanding items (Morricone, Piccioni, Ortolani) but I'm unsure if all tapes exist?

As far as I know and Maurizio Buttazzoni confirmed it to me in 2010 when I had an e-mail contact with him, Radiofilmusica had lost many of their old tapes - or at least many of them had been damaged - through a big fire (similar to the fire at Universal). So for example the tapes for Morricone´s DANGER DIABOLIK are probably lost.
Also for those older scores from the 50s and early 60s often no material or only a few tracks are still available. So it is a hit or miss situation. You can see this for example on the Piiccioni CD with GUENDALINA and NATA DI MARZO and on the Lavagnino one with LA DONNA DEL FIUME and LA RISAIA which Maurizio released about 2010. Many tracks from those scores had been unfortunately missing and Maurizio just put on the CDs those tracks which did still exist at Radiofilmusica, but of course these were not the complete scores.
Radiofilmusica also didn´t have original tapes for Piccioni´s LA TEMPESTA from 1958 anymore - the tracks for the CD therefore came from Piccioni´s own tape copies. Otherwise it would not have been possible.

This score has gained almost "mythical status" let's hope one day it get's the release it so richly deserves.

That theme is mesmerizing. (or motif really)

It's the musical description of a deep breath and sigh.

Like a deep state of grieving.

Hoping also one day to add this to my library of amazing Ennio Morricone scores.

The opening is really the most beautiful rendition of Morricone's sublime theme, and it has yet to be released. Sure hope we someday see a release that includes that wonderful piece.

The ORCA score will appear again in November, but this time confined in a 18(!) CD box by Universal France dedicated to Ennio Morricone.
The track listing for the first 15 CDs of this huge box can already be seen on Amazon France - and it can also be seen there that ORCA will have 14 tracks which means probably three more (Tema dell´Orca II, III and IV) than have been released on previous LPs/CDs. The ORCA tracks can all be found on CD 8 whereas it seems that most of the other discs don´t contain much Morricone novelites:

Thanks for the heads-up, Stefan! smile Far from the ideal solution, but at least a sign there are still possibilities regarding ORCA.

Probably licensed from Radiofilmusica in Italy this time. Either Universal France paid a lot of money to them or the situation has indeed changed and Radiofilmuscia has become more cooperative as I had already suggested when surprisingly Piccioni´s MAFIOSO (also owned by Radiofilmusica) was released last month by Camille 3000.

This Universal box contains a second surprise for die-hard Morricone fans on CD 10: The score for the Tinto Brass movie LA CHIAVE from 1983 which had formerly only been available on LP, but has never been released on CD till now. This is another score which had quite a lot of difficulties regarding the various music publishers involved (among them Cabum) and which no label in Italy had managed to release on CD during the last few decades. It is obvious that Lerouge now could license it so that all the old LP album tracks are on CD 10 (tracks 16-25).

Is the original intro with Edda vocal finally has been released?

I took a bit of a punt - as most Morricone collectors did in those days - ordering the original LP from Soundtrack and General without seeing the film or hearing the score. The main theme is undoubtedly superb.

I think the LP had something like Front cover artists impression not actual footage of movie.

I imagine that once this box set sells out - that another label will do Orca. Music Box might even take another shot at it.

Has anyone downloaded this yet? 14 tracks vs 11 for The Legend CD, ~ 3 minutes longer.
Unfortunately the clips on Amazon.fr are so short I can't distinguish any differences from Legend's.
Anyone?

What's the deal with the Music Box release? I know there was some controversy at the time, but I stuck to my regular policy - buy now, ask questions later.

Was the 11th (12th, 13th) hour cancellation of the Music Box release due to the same version being offered within that 18CD collection?

Was it not something to do with the licensing of the song?
