Everyone should get The Thing remaster from Quartet Records.

I love the fact that Morricone had seen the previous John Carpenter films, and did some "Carpenter cues" of his own.

Dunno how the rest of you are doing but ive increased my ennio collection since his passing. It just seems the right thing to do. Still hundreds to go but im filling in a few blanks and loving adding new themes to my favourites category.
I imagine a few of you have similar tales in the last few weeks?

Same here Bill but I thought I maybe scrapping the bottom of the barrel when I ordered Space 1999. It arrived today and it’s not that bad at all, it kept my attention and manages to be consistently experimental all the way through despite a handful of library cues thrown in. The main vocal by Edda is absolutely beautiful. It was reused years later in the TV series Orient Express and is on a few compilations too, I hope people don’t overlook that.

I so far bought "only" TWO MULES but look forward to discovering the next titles to be issued. I don't think we can have great expectations from Italian labels unless they would of course release expanded scores that were previously refused by Ennio himself. Stefan probably knows if some titles have already been reserved.
Cometa, how about finally releasing THRILLING and E PER TETTO UN CIELO DI STELLE?

I therefore hope that American labels like La-La-Land, Intrada, etc will expand great scores like THE MISSION, HAMLET, CITY OF JOY, U-TURN, VATEL, etc.

THE MISSION expanded...THAT would be IT!!!

Not giving too much away but i found out this week that 2 of our resident Morriconians have some rare maestro-related items.

1 has a posh dinner plate (1 of about 6 ever made!) with a great caricature of Ennio painted on it and another has Ouatitw CD in a numbered wooden box set. If anyone wants to know addresses for where these can be stolen... i may fold under questioning!! big grin

I have a CD-R of THE MERCENARY ( sans artwork) which I'd be willing to sell in exchange for the identity of those the secretive scoundrels. Bill, are you interested? 80 euros and it's yours.

Howard Shore apparently wrote something about Ennio Morricone in the next Empire magazine issue which is out next month.

That was a secret, and it would have stayed a secret if it wasn't for that pesky scouser!

Actually, it wasn't "supposed" to be about Morricone, it's just that since there were three Morriconians there plus me, that's the way the conversation ended up going. When the others were showing their engraved goblets (engraved by the teeth of the great Ennio himself) I surprised them all with my CD-R of... something.

I did get to show my Hammer films book ("The Bray Studios Years"), but I forgot to wave my LP of I START COUNTING (Basil's Kitchen Band) at the "camera" (telephone) again.

Now that you've let the cat out of the bag, Kev, I for one would be delighted to see you at our next secret Wotsits chat. Not that we ever had one or are thinking of having another.

By the way, I won't be able to do many, if any, of Stephen's Sunday zoomers, because that's when I phone my mum upstairs. If anybody would like to organise a small-scale meeting on a different day by, say... WhatsApp (I believe it's technically possible, although beyond my own skills), please get in touch with somebody.

To be fair, i think the host was limited in numbers.

But we were worried you might bring up liverpool winning the title every 8 seconds. wink

I never made the cut eh! Typical frown
And I would have limited it to every 15 seconds!
