"...In his younger days, whenever Morricone had written in a deliberately-off key trumpet to be played over a theme, he has been known to perform the task on the recording session personally. Ennio still has his father Mario's trumpet which he keeps in a safekeeping box. "I take it up for some films when i need a crazy or distorted sound. I play it only for a few seconds - because anymore and my heart brain and lungs would explode!"

There you go leo, cut n paste that lot into your post and i will alter mine. Its fairly straightforward in future, u just need the full youtube commands at beginning and end, and replace the random code after the =
This Friday Ennio MorriconeĀ“s piece "Tante pietre a ricordare" which means "So many stones to remember" will be performed for the first time. The piece is written for the inauguration of the new bridge in Genoa and honors the victims of the bridge accident 2018.

Thanks Bill, but I still can't work out how to do it....and does it really matter ? I guess I don't have your technical expertise.
Gee, I too wish I had your computer skills Bill, coz I would have illustrated exactly what I meant in my reply to Joan on The Great Silence thread. But some of us are so ham fisted still. Bug*er!
And I haven't the slightest clue how to do all the posting YT vids you all do too. Aarrgghh!
I thought this appropriate to bring over here. Stephen Woolston does a Zoom meeting on film music every two weeks, alternating with a different one exclusively on composer John Barry. Last Friday he felt it appropriate to dedicate one to Ennio Morricone. It was the usual process of each participant giving their first Morricone encounter and what the composer meant to them. But what resulted was rather powerful and emotional. Stephen said it was his longest yet and I know it did pass the 3 and a half hour point. A few were taking down Morricone titles they had never experienced before. Many elaborated so passionately and in-depth that I actually didn't get my turn but it was all for the best as love for the Maestro was palpable throughout. Some extolled the absolute mastery of music to image in CNEMA PARADISO, THE GOOD THE BAD AND THEUGLY and ONCE UPON A TIME IN AMERICA. Some marveled how Morricone could make something atonal into something flavorful. Others still found how Morricone bringing his Pop and Rock sensibility to his scores, from arranging for every major Italian singer imaginable, was one of the earliest pioneering efforts in that area. But the most heartfelt testimonials were the personal ones. And none more than from film director Amin Matalqa who described how Ennio wrote the soundtrack to his life, from accompanying his wedding vows to consoling during the final days of his late wife.
I have been to many tributes to all kinds of composers. Never been to anything quite like this. It was one for the ages.
If it were a thread we'd be proclaiming it an example of FSMessageboard at its finest, worthy of preservation. Bravo, "Morricone."
Nice piece Henry, Amin's video sure was moving. And i didnt realise we hadnt heard your story mate. We are all to blame there.
Iam still fascinated by that thing when fans climbed on board the Ennio bus!! The rough groups... those old enough to see Fistful at the cinema; those that knew the GBU single and then got hooked when the westerns came on tv in 70s; those europeans drawn in by Algiers and the french and italian thrillers (a splinter group like the Judean Popular Front! ); the group that came on board with the rise in American hollywood films, like The Thing, Days of Heaven, OuatiA, Untouchables, The Mission, White dog etc. And even those inspired to look deeper after Tarantino films.
Priceless footage of Morricone and Leone.....my apologies if it as been posted before.
Great footage indeed! it's the first time ever I've seen Ennio playing the 3-manual Thomas 900 electronic theatre organ. I've a feeling it was filmed in the same location as the photo you posted above - the one where Ennio's sitting in front of the same organ. According to the book "Ennio Morricone: In His Own Words" the photo was taken at his (home)studio at via delle molette, mentana, Rome. I wonder if he owned those instruments or if they were hired.
Dunno how the rest of you are doing but ive increased my ennio collection since his passing. It just seems the right thing to do. Still hundreds to go but im filling in a few blanks and loving adding new themes to my favourites category. A few have come from Henry's threads, a couple i wanted myself anyway and a couple came from helping Stephen Woolston choose a few, we researched on itunes and i ended up buying 2 of his potentials!
Plus collecting Two mules tomorrow.
I imagine a few of you have similar tales in the last few weeks?
I've just ordered The Thing. Never actually had that one so looking forward to it. And I just received the book, In His Own Words for my birthday yesterday. Looks very impressive though I won't get to start it for another week or so ( I meant to get that last year but forgot all about it until someone mentioned it here recently!).
I so far bought "only" TWO MULES but look forward to discovering the next titles to be issued. I don't think we can have great expectations from Italian labels unless they would of course release expanded scores that were previously refused by Ennio himself. Stefan probably knows if some titles have already been reserved. Cometa, how about finally releasing THRILLING and E PER TETTO UN CIELO DI STELLE?
I therefore hope that American labels like La-La-Land, Intrada, etc will expand great scores like THE MISSION, HAMLET, CITY OF JOY, U-TURN, VATEL, etc.
