It's a great score! I bought the original expanded release with high hopes. Oddly, I haven't listened to it as much as I thought I would--it tends to be more of a winter listen and sounds better imo when it's cold outside. I'm curious what could possibly exist to fill out four CDs. Even Die Hard, with the myriad of alternates and extras, was a solid three CDs. Honestly, I'm pretty happy with the 2CD version--I can't think of anything that wasn't included that my life feels incomplete without. And I still have my original Morgan Creek CD with the songs. But I am definitely going to be following this to see what the consensus is on the new material.

It’s not from Doug’s Corner, but he just posted an update saying where these new materials came from (but still doesn’t say what’s on the extra two discs): Just to clarify without giving away all the goodies: Our previous 2-CD edition was missing some 20 minutes of score from the picture, plus a number of additional alternates. It was the best that could be done at the time but I really hungered for some of those missing cues quite badly, three of them in particular. Enter the Kamen Estate plus newly located elements and, thank the gods, we've got the release this modern masterpiece deserves. --Doug

I never picked up the previous release because I had the original cd (and frankly never played it much), but I re-watched this movie recently and it is such an epic score! More than the film deserves, honestly. So, looking forward to this 4-cd set.

Doug's Corner: 9/20/2020 Next up on our docket of new releases is an all-new examination of the magnificent score Michael Kamen recorded in 1991 for Robin Hood: Prince Of Thieves. I hesitate to identify it as a reissue of our previous edition since this one comes from superior new elements, includes a wealth of important music missing from the earlier release and was produced with the generous help of the Kamen Estate. The 4-CD set is available this week. Look for artwork, complete contents and sound samples this Monday eve.

That post above is a joke post. Doug posted that above message. It's in Roger's announcement thread on their board.

It is a terrific score; had I not picked up Intrada's excellent 2CD set, I'd be all up for this new release, though 4CDs seems to be mighty hefty. I just listened to it yesterday, and the 2CD set as it is sounds very good and has no "filler" stuff, so the score flows well. It is a mighty good score though. Interestingly, at the heyday of the CD market in the late 1990s and early 2000s, when the "limited edition" release of Close Encounters numbered 50,000(!) copies, the were the very idea of certain scores being released in an expanded version was ridiculous. Most of it due to hefty re-use fees, which made expanded editions prohibitively expensive. Nowadays, when CDs themselves have become pure niche market products and even mainstream classical recordings sell in hundreds not thousands of copies, we get 4CD sets of stuff like Michael Kamen's ROBIN HOOD. Really interesting, the way things have changed over the years.

Wouldn't it be interesting if the OST is not included?
