I don't get this choir business. Haven't the people involved with the choir been paid for their services when they're taking part in the actual recordings? Is there really some kind of contract that states if you want to use the choir in a soundtrack release that you have to pay them so much money that it would make it impossible for the soundtrack to break even?

Folks, we are researching the Animated Series and hope to be able to release it in some form, at some time. That's all I can say—there are licensing as well as technical hurdles.

Thanks,

Lukas

Wow, totally missed this news. Hope it happens.

While the AFM allows for reduced re-use rates for limited editions, a different union (SAG-AFTRA) covers choirs, and they don't give the labels any such break.

So if the choir was recorded somewhere under the jurisdiction of SAG-AFTRA, it can be prohibitive to include them for a soundtrack album. In some cases, the choral portions are recorded elsewhere (such as Utah), and in others, they're replaced with a synth choir.

They are musicians- the get paid to perform on the original recording date and residuals for replays of the movie, home video sales, and reproduction on CDs & downloads.
Residuals for a whole orchestra can be pretty high; now double that with so many chorus members.

So yes, residuals can be so high as to make soundtrack albums a losing financial proposition.

This is great, Lukas. Thanks for the opportunity. I have quite a few ideas for tracks that weren’t included in previous releases. I haven’t included any new episodes or episodes from Voyager due to that set not being released yet. All of the time codes are from the UK DVDs, so I’m not sure if any conversion is required. I’ve also emboldened the tracks that I think are especially good, so you can mainly focus on them. The others are simply if you need more. And obviously, some of the smaller tracks could be combined into one like has been done with previous releases. You can also mainly focus on the Enterprise tracks since those tend to be my favourites. Hope you like my selection.

Hey LaLaLand!

I think for STAR TREK: TNG are the Two-Part Cliffhangers very important. I like to have them complete or mostly complete: McCarthys "Redemption Part I and II", "Time's Arrow Part I and II" and Jay Chattaways "Descent Part I and II"

I second that. Maybe it's possible to make a disc with music from all the TNG-two parters (except Best of Both Worlds of course).

In particular I'd like to get the follwing cues:

Redemption II
01:28 – 03:38 Opening Battle
33:40 – 40:12 Detection Net/Data's Plan/Romulan's Discovered/Battle for the Klingon Empire

Time's Arrow II
36:41 – 38:55 Picard's Message Through Time

Thank you La-La Land!

Just refreshing the interest in this one track. We have 12 users who have voiced their support for a non-voiceover version take of Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan's Epilogue. Film version of course. smile

Sorry if that comes off as redundant. It's still something I've been waiting for more than a decade and a half since I owned the original album.

My recommendations might be redundant since we have a new Voyager and Enterprise soundtrack coming but I just want to mention them just in case.

Star Trek Voyager -

"Timeless"

The track beginning at 28:38 (for like 8 minutes) which is when they attempt the slipstream flight and fail.

Star Trek Enterprise "Anomaly"

The cue when the pirates attack at the beginning of the episode and when the Enterprise ambushes the pirates at the sphere towards the end.

"Twilight"
The cue when Archer's brain is being zapped and the Enterprise captures the alien spy

"Similitude"
The cue when the shuttle pods pull the Enterprise out of the anomaly.

"Azati Prime"

The cue when they first discover the weapon being constructed under water and then the cue when the Enterprise is nearly blown to bits.

I think that's it. I don't know the precise times of everything except the Voyager episode.

I would love this commercial too - and have posted about it in other Star Trek threads.

And we absolutely need the music in this commercial (unless it's already been done). Skip to 1:30 in the video--

Having posted my wish-list on trekcore some time ago, serveral guys pointed out to me it would be better to submit the list here, too.
As before, the timecodes are rough estimates (re-calculated from the PAL-version to an approximate NTSC-timecodes). So here's the slightly updated list:

TNG S01
Main Title (television mix)

TNG S07E08 - ATTACHED
~ 32:30 - Crusher and Picard campfire talk
~ 42:00 - Crusher and Picard final scene

TNG S07E25/26 - ALL GOOD THINGS...
unreleased cues

DS9 S01E03 - PAST PROLOGUE
~ 44:40 - End Credits (Season 1 short version)

DS9 S04E01/02 - THE WAY OF THE WARRIOR
~ 6:45 - Main Titles ("pulsing" version that was only used in this episode)

DS9 S04E03 - THE VISITOR
~ 44:35 - End Credits (Season 4 short version)

S05E25 - IN THE CARDS
~ 31:40 - Klingon opera

DS9 S06E06 - SACRIFICE OF ANGELS
~ 1:40 - Attack fleet prepares to engage the Klingons

DS9 S07E04 - TAKE ME OUT TO THE HOLOSUITE
~ 26:50 - Federation Anthem

DS9 S07E15 - BADDA-BING, BADDA-BANG
"just anything" ;-)

DS9 S07E25/26 - WHAT YOU LEAVE BEHIND
~ 1:18:45 - The Way You Look Tonight (television mix - without the sax solo)

VOY S01E15 - JETREL
~ 23:50 - Neelix remembers metreon cascade aftermath

VOY S07E25/26 - ENDGAME
"just anything", too

ENT S01E03 - FIGHT OR FLIGHT
~ 43:25 - End Credits (version was only used in this episode)

ENT S03E18 - AZATI PRIME
~ 38:00 - Enterprise gets hit hard ('til the cliffhanger)

ENT S04E18 - IN A MIRROR, DARKLY
~ 41:55 - End Credits

Technical and legal issues aside, antything from TAS would be great, as well as complete scores from TNG's "Yesterday's Enterprise", "Unification" and "Relics".

As an afterthought, I keep wondering about the credits theme apparently composed especially for the "30 Years and Beyond" special. That would be a treat, too.

Ah, NO...

That cue was ripped apart on the dub stage at the direction of Rick Berman and Dennis HATED IT, as did everyone else who heard the original version which was used on the DS9 set.

ENT S04E18 - IN A MIRROR, DARKLY

This was just an edit of the Main Title.

Yeah, I know the story of that cue, but quite frankly, I like the televised cue just a tad more, as I got used to it watching the series finale over and over again. No need for you to like it, it's only a personal favorite, just as Lukas asked us to list.
In the end, anything La-La-Land choosed to release will be a treat for us.

These are all wonderful suggestions, some of which will definitely be on this set. We are making the assembly right now and trying to get clearances on a number of tracks.

At this time we don't need any more suggestions.

We plan on releasing this very special 3 disc set in September to coincide with the mega 50th anniversary celebration planned that month.

Excellent! How far in advance will the track list be announced, do you think?

The cue from TNG's "Time Squared" where Geordi plays the visual log retrieved from the future shuttle. It's an ominous piece that carries the silent scene very well.

Dennis McCarthy's scores for "Klingon Encounter" & "Borg Invasion 4-D" at "Star Trek: The Experience" in Las Vegas. Powerful stuff.
