Film historian and author Eric Lichtenfeld, who co-wrote the liner notes for this album, has written a new essay about the film for the Library of Congress.

Thank you for sharing this. It's nice to know which information will officially be tied to the film for prosperity.

Also, is there any chance that you or Mike Matessino (or other LLL staff) will be giving an interview about this new Die Hard edition? I am sure you have a few interesting stories about the making of this unexpected new release. I looked up the GeekCast podcast hoping that maybe a new La-La Land Lounge episode would be up about Die Hard or the Black Friday releases but sadly, nothing new.

In the meantime, still waiting for the mail truck to bring me my copy. The tracking updates tell me it's finally coming soon...

I was very surprised by the unused cues - Shoot the Glass, Happy Trails and Powell’s Comeback. Not at all what I was expecting.

Right? It definitely changes the tone of the ending, which I always thought was overly-jubilant for a cop learning to kill again.

Haha. Totally. I watched it with my niece recently and at that moment I turned to her and said “Awww. How nice. He learned to kill again.”

Several weeks down the line, and no regrets whatsoever on this purchase. It's all here, it all sounds great, and there is actually a lot of %#@& I ain't never heard before. This presentation finally gets it right, and has re-invigorated my interest in an old chestnut, just in time for the season (Die Hard was in 4K HDR this year).

The effort put into this set is really apparent.

Grand Dio, this is so good. Wood blocks in the Assault on the Tower cue?!? I have to keep checking if a cue is newly released, many are so unrecognizable, after many plays of the other go's at this score. Like the cotton has been removed from my ears, at last!
Truly hearing this anew, so worth it. Even the track notes by Bond are excellent, just when I've become bored by those. F'ing perfect all around, 1000, thousand thanks & congrats Team LLL. :-D

That's too bad. Hopefully someone from the media industry will realize this little treasure resurfaced, better than ever, and will want a few questions answered. You're lucky that's not what I do for a living because you would get one heck of a list of questions from me. I already have many and I did not even listen to that set yet!

A superb release. Not too keen on DH 2 and 3 though. But this one is amazing to say the least - music and remastering and all the new material.

Finally, the precious package has arrived!!! The CD set looks great, very classy. I cannot wait to attentively start listening to it tomorrow! Just the idea that I will be listening to Die Hard score cues that I never heard before is completely insane... I am going to have an excellent weekend!

Relax, we got everything in this mug man. Look at this: CD, CB, TV, telephone, full bar, VHS... and a brand-new Die Hard soundtrack release!

I decided to put my non-existent audio editing skills to the test to see if I could recreate the film version of 'Gun In Cheek' using music that was tracked over it. The tracked music is sourced from the opening moments of 'Going After John (Film Mix)' on the 3rd disc.

Think I came close enough?

Your video got nixed by copyright claim from Fox.

LOL!! Yes, I intentionally ignored that last part of the quote. I figured my girlfriend would not have appreciated seeing me hanging out with other Mama Bears during the weekend on top of disappearing a few hours to listen to the Die Hard score. Just a guess. wink

Also, I listened to the first CD yesterday... what an experience so far. The sound quality is just breathtaking. As for the new cues, sigh... so unreal. All I can say is if you hate lengthy posts on this board, get ready to skip mine in the next few days.

Almost forgot to mention: as I was listening to the score last night, some creep broke into my home and sneaked into the room I was in. As soon as the Nakatomi Plaza cue started, that crazy guy then decided to play some guitar! Obviously, I immediately turned to him to tell him off (and maybe congratulate him on his guitar skills), only to find out that no one else was in the room: it was just this insane immersive sound that makes us feel as if we're in the middle of the scoring sessions with Kamen!

Ok, I was obviously joking with that breaking in story but seriously, when The Nakatomi Plaza cue started playing, it really startled me at how close that guitar felt to the listener. Really impressive.

Regarding the film mix versions of some cues. I was under the impression that film mix meant the mix used in the film as opposed to the original version? However take 'Going After John' for an example. The version heard on Disc 1 is I believe the version used in the film, the iconic guitar licks ("Girls!") are quite obvious while the film mix on disc 3 has nixed the guitar.
Just curious.

For the most part it means used in the film but ya it's a little weird. You are right the first part of "Going After John" from 0:00-2:26 of Disc 1 is used in the film. Then from 2:27-end from Disc 3 of the film mix version is used in the film.

Which track is 'Ode to Joy (Alternate)' from the previous release? is it one of 'The Vault' alternates?

This edition has one of the most informative booklets I've seen. A nice bonus to a terrific release. Give LLL three tries and they'll get it right. smile
