How so, Brundlefly? Neil S. Bulk handled the assembly on this if I'm not mistaken (though he didn't produce it), and he always does a very careful job. I realize that having all the small cues separate is not to everyone's taste, but there are many people who prefer it (and in fact complain when cues ARE combined!) So it feels like on that score, labels are damned if they do and damned if they don't. Personally I'm happy to have every cue separate -- aids in my whittling down of this score to the parts I like the very best. But do you just mean "worst" more in the terms of this score not working best in complete form, compared with other recent Goldsmith Deluxe Editions like Small Soldiers (awesome all the way through), Chain Reaction (awesome all the way through), etc.? Now if we are talking cover art, I may agree with you about the relative lack of quality, sadly. But the good news is that people have produced superior custom cover art here in this very forum. One issue is the decision to just leave every cue as a separate track. There have been great compromises that no one could complain about, but this is just a bad way to present the whole thing musically. Just adapting to a bunch of people who like to edit the shit out of their CDs is not the right choice, when there are many more people who would just like to insert the disc into a player and enjoy the music. It is especially that score that would have been elevated by a smoother musical flow. The musical experience counts and not just clean endings and chronology. That's a big assumption to make. Repeatedly, in multiple threads regarding multiple scores, the very people who assembled, produced, and sold the albums have said that the length and/or number of cues can impact the cost of the project. Other times, the composers themselves want it done a specific (probably not in this case since Jerry has long since passed away). Besides the awful cover (I'm sorry, that is the right adjective here) Again--might not be something Varese had any say in controlling. Most likely, the studio mandated which art they used. some sloppy fade-outs and fade-ins as well as the misplaced track markers are just a sign of lacking quality control or care. Those are issues that could have been fixed within an hour. That said, it is not really a challenge to qualify as the worst Goldsmith expansion of the past ten years, since those releases usually epitomize perfection. I'm not nearly as well-versed in audio as others on here, so I can't intelligently comment on the fade-outs, track markers, etc. What I can say though is that "the worst Goldsmith expansion of the past ten years" is definitely subjective. I'm listening to right now (it arrived yesterday), and while it's not my favorite Goldsmith score (through no fault of its own) I'm finding it to be a very pleasant, smooth-flowing listening experience. Then again, I'm listening to my MP3 transfer streaming from my phone over to my $300 LG XBOOM rather than acutely listening to every second of audio through a pair of Sennheiser headphones, so I guess take my assessment for whatever it's worth.

Listen to Mutant & I - it's a fantastic long awaited release & its expertly produced. Period. You are welcome Neil - please unroll your eyes, sir! The short cues...unless you are sitting with your face against the cd display, psychotically watching times.....who knew? Its NOT like the Varese recordings (Citizen Kane!) with 2-4 second gaps between :15 cues that destroy any flow. I've played it a few times & never had a sense of....short cue blocking, why?? My experience is disrupted! Never!!! I had no sense, care or concern cues are blocked out as they are. Besides, we don't have to listen to Rutherford gripe if it WAS blocked into suites! Bonus, party! Play the album, close your eyes or go driving - enjoy. Art is fine, good Schweiger essay, as always & the list of L.A. county, all with a hand in performaning. Filed under "there's always someone...next!"
