Film Score Haiku Thread
No film score limerick thread.
Time to start one up.

An entrepreneur, name of Lukas
Gave us music that thrilled us and shook us
But along came defeatists
Who eschewed the completists
And covered each issue in mucus.

Holly and Ayla and Josh
Spent so much of their hard-earned dosh
On esoteric CDs
Until Ayla said 'Please...
Make sure we've enough left for nosh'.

Stromberg and Bonn and Morgan
Wrote sleeve-notes with exquisite jargon
Bill brandished his baton
While Anna worked hard on
What John had cooked up with his organ.

Keep 'em coming, dearies.

deputyRiley loves nothing more than scream
hold on now what about friday the 13th?
or a boxset of saw?
for freddy to claw?
the hour draws clouser it seems!

henry loves to conti
with a great year chianti
and if it's a herrmann
you know he'll still turn and
ask where's my conti?

James Newton Howard is tough.
His scoring style's smooth and not rough.
He's sure paid his dues,
But so many cues
For Julia Roberts? ENOUGH!

One thing soundtrack fans like a lot
Is that looks do not matter a jot.
Be they thin or quite fatter
The scores are what matter.
(That Lolita Ritmanis? She's hot.)

Those 80s fanboys do love their Conti and Kamen
With every Broughton release, they shout "Amen!"
No interest in Korngold, Steiner, Al Newman or Skinner
Which is why Golden Age releases are getting thinner
Give pre 60s scores a try, what do you say, men?

A top German tunesmith called Zimmer
Now shines in the biz with a glimmer.
His trademark of sound
Is spread all around,
And some say film music's now dimmer.

After a Steiner named Max scored “King Kong”
Newman, Waxman and Korngold came along
Their scores were stupendous
Some ultra-tremendous
And our lives were enriched with their song.

Just dabbling:

Hats off to our friends Hugo Friedhofer,
Broni Kaper, John Green and Van Cleave:
Hugo’s “...Dolphin”, Kaper’s “...Bounty”
Green’s gorgeous “Raintree County”
And “Robinson Crusoe...” by Mr. Cleave.

James Bond's musical alter ego was John Barry
When scored by others, the Bond music did vary
Conti, Hamlisch and Eric Serra played the game
David Arnold did try but it just wasn't the same
With John at the helm, music and images did marry

Chris Young is the ever hellraiser
Drag him to hell, he'll still amaze ya
but what's really at the core
aside from all the guts and gore
is his signature classy behavior

To the great Bernard Herrmann, let us sing his praise
Janet's shower, Tippi's thefts or Jimmy Stewart's gaze
Sinbad's voyage, Pat Boone at the center of the earth
Welles' Kane, Tierney's Mrs. Muir all have their worth
Gone 36 years, his music still has the power to amaze

This thread has lots of potential
For poetic outbursts torrential
When push comes to shove,
The posters above
Display they've got all the essential.

A club called Varese Sarabande
Their product was frequently panned
Folk said, 'It's not decent...
This stuff is too recent:
Dig deeper, and bypass the bland'.

Our ancestors beset by the Norsemen
Or fierce Scandinavian oarsmen
Water-Melons aloft,
Did fearlessly scoff,
'Who is this who would edit our scores, then?'

A director called Hazanavicious made The Artist
In scoring the film, Mr. Bource worked his hardest
At home, Ms. Novak saw the film silent
Her reaction to the music was violent
Yet his Oscar win was the smartest

There was an old man with a beard,
Who said, "It is just as I feared,
A month, maybe more,
For writing a score,
Is a luxury that's disappeared."

That’s a great twist on an Edward Lear original!

Bill Carson is full of Blarney
Tall Guy is never a Smarmy.
Kev always does glow
dtw could write for dough.
Let’s all try to meet at a Carney.

How fun are our fun loving Brits.
Their accents are never the pits.
They eat with their left hands
Breakfast from bean cans.
I’ve never met one who’s a drip.

Yes, James Horner's scores are full of emotion,
His thematic style earned him our devotion.
It's easy to call him a thief,
And then there's the danger motif,
But he's the heart in the Heart of the Ocean.
