The movie is about a couple of lovers (Ewan McGregor and Eva Green) living in the world affected by unknown disease deprivating people of their senses. The minimalist score was based mostly on solo piano and strings with various solos for violin and one the most moving pieces of music I have heard in ages accompanying the finale of the film. I definitely hope someone is working on releasing this marvelous score! I have been also discovering Richter´s music through his piece included in Scorsese´s SHUTTER ISLAND, which was also quite an impressive and I´d definitely be interested in hearing more (all) of his music that is out there. He has worked on quite a few films in last few years and released several albums of his own music, which is quite similar to his film scores. Is anyone familiar more with his work and could recommend where to start with his music? Most of his albums have FANTASTIC reviews and he definitely is one of strongest new voices on the film scoring scene. Some examples of his work in case anyone hasn´t heard about him yet...    Posted:   Jun 14, 2011 - 4:41 AM     By:   Urs Lesse   (Member) I recently saw (and listened to) the German movie DIE FREMDE (score CD at Colosseum) which was scored by Max Richter and Stéphane Moucha. They seem to belong to some kind of Gabriel Yared / Yann Tiersen school of film music which often relies a lot on piano and very memorable and melancholic tunes. Pick up any of his albums; they're all worthwhile. It's been released on CD by JADE and shows a less melancholic face of Richter. Hope it will happen and won't end up like Don't be afraid of the dark... The only one i wouldn't recommend is the Miss Sloane film he did maybe earlier this year. Other than that, you can blind-buy anything and probably really like it. I first noticed his music while watching SHUTTER ISLAND and his famous piece they used (On The Nature Of Daylight*) and it's brilliant mash-up with the Dinah Washington vocal, This Bitter Earth. Then I happened upon a copy of the CD of MARY QUEEN OF SCOTS for £2 in town and that one has some fantastic tracks too (the last one, the 8 minute Finale, is ace). And then last week, his main theme to AD ASTRA was the best thing about the film to me. So dreamy and tender...and simple. He's like a modernistic version of John Barry, with his seemingly simplistic themes and recurring rhythms. In fact, while watching a film he scored this past weekend (THE LAST DAYS ON MARS) there was a building, repeating suspense cue that actually sounded like John Barry. I also sampled some of his stuff on Spotify and loved what I heard in NEVER LOOK BACK and HOSTILES.
