The Hyborian Age is upon us!

It gives me great pleasure to say that Basil Poledouris' iconic score from "Conan the Barbarian" is now available to pre-order (ships week commencing 9th May).

Celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, for many it was their first exposure to Arnold Schwarzenegger.

With the movie featuring almost wall-to-wall music, this is a really must-have study score! The book includes every cue from the movie, plus various album edits and unused cues. The perfect companion to read along with the movie, or with the expanded Original Soundtrack release from Intrada.

Add to that a beautiful foreword by Zoë Poledouris Roché and thematic and cue analyses by Erik Heine, this book really has everything.

I'm no expert but answer me this- wouldn't gift of fury be laid out as two full pages instead of half left/ full right page. Equally wouldn't riders of doom be more than nine lines a page.

Is the purpose of this book so that the purchaser can play some of the music on their own instruments?

I have a few books of sheet music + lyrics published by Hal Leonard Corporation that I bought some time ago because I wanted to see the official copyrighted lyrics to some songs. But not to actually play the music.

If instruments aren't playing anything, they're staves don't need to be printed out. Much of "Riders of Doom" is going to have many more staves, but in the last few bars, there aren't that many instruments playing. "Gift of Fury" starts out with just the choir and some strings playing, so again, not many staves needed.

Makes sense , I think. Though when you see them do a symphony it's two full pages , with some empty bits. So is this item saving space as well?

This format is the standard for published full scores (look at Dover or Boosey & Hawks editions). A conductor’s score will have all staves but that’s reserved for leading an orchestra from the podium. Study scores have always used the format as seen in the photos from
Chris.

There is no point in a printed study score that is meant to be read rather than performed to print rows and rows of blank staff, so instruments that do not play anything are usually omitted. That's why published scores sometimes have a full page, sometimes a half page for the same amount of bars.
I already thought I had enough printed film scores, especially with STAR TREK - THE MOTION PICTURE, but I consider getting this one.

Just wait until later this year when Chris releases Alien in full score!

Seriously? Because of all the possible film score scores I'd be interested in after STAR TREK - THE MOTION PICTURE, ALIEN would be my number one "must buy". So I'd literally wait and get both to save postage.

That's really great. I was hoping he'd do "Alien" someday. What times we are living in!

Is this a reconstruction or a transcription from the original manuscripts?

What a rennaisance we're living in, with all these printed film scores being released in full like this. Who'd have thought it'd be like this even ten years ago?

Of course this is one of those scores one HAS to buy if they have any interest in this at all....

Fully agreed. I remember some 20 years ago I thought "gee, would be nice to have a look at some of these film scores as printed scores", but never thought it would happen. Scores I'd have (figuratively, notliterally) would have killed for were STAR TREK - THE MOTION PICTURE and ALIEN. Well, here we are now.

Oddly enough, shipping to Germany for two individual orders seems to be cheaper than ordering two items together...

Really? That would be odd. Curiously, I cannot find any shipping information.

You have to go through part of the Checkout process. Two items show up at about 64$ and one single at about 21$. Both are indicated as Royal Mail with tracking. So you basically can get 3 for the shipping of two.

Ooof, $40 shipping to the US. That's a bit of a tough sell.
