I only watched the first episode and didn't like the show, but the music was really great. Looking forward listening to this.

I love LOWER DECKS and am super excited about this album release! The main title for this show is such an earworm.

Finally, a dedicated thread for this great Star Trek scoring -- IMO the best the franchise has gotten on TV since Ron Jones!

For those who tried the show and gave up...I suggest you give it another chance. Much like The Orville, the first 2-3 episodes make you think the whole show is going to be childish comedy. But that's actually not the case! The last 2-3 episodes of the short 10 episode season (and the episodes themselves are short -- this is not a big time suck) are absolutely FANTASTIC and loving Star Trek. And the scoring for these is absolutely incredible. GREAT news that a soundtrack album is finally coming -- it's about time!

I guess I need to accept that there likely won't be much in the way of CD releases for Trek albums going forward. I admit, I focus so much on the live action series albums I never considered the possibility of an album release for the animated shows (outside of what was on the 50th anniversary collection).

Does anyone know which tracks are the ones used in the first season, ninth episode, where the holographic crew did the fly around the Cerritos?

Also is this only the music from the first season? Or music from both?

I’m really enjoying it, the first time enjoying ANY tv Trek since the original series. Laugh out loud, inventive, occasionally touching and a great diversion for half an hour. A second series episode I watched this morning warned of violence, bad language, sex and nudity, can’t cavil about an animated series with all that going on!

The music is very good, would consider a cd - but it’s not good enough to change my entire attitude about downloads just to own it.

If anyone’s interested, the Courage and Goldsmith themes also make an appearance. The latter has only been used once that I’ve noticed - in a scene where a heavily-armed starship bursts onto the scene blasting alien ships left and right; in other words, a military context. Which I found interesting.

As a life-long Trekkie, I endorse this program and release!

And I don't mind that it's digital, no doubt just how they would listen on the USS Cerritos.

It's definitely from both seasons.
Judging from the tracklist, it even seems to start with tracks from the second season. Overall, it seems fairly random, nothing chronological about it.

Looks pretty childish to me. Would be nice if they did something like ST:TAS or even Tron: Uprising.

I really have to echo Yavar here. Lower Decks' first few episodes don't really seem to have much direction and strike the viewer as aimless and juvenile. However, that changes pretty quickly. The second half of S1 become a rip snort wallop through some terribly funny, charming, and thoughtful stories that serve as equal parts satire and love letters (a difficult balance!) to the things that make Star Trek great. The last episode of S1 is what really brought that home. Without spoilers all I can say is I was left feeling a lot of things I would expect from a good drama. Thankfully, S2 hasn't really let off the gas and has been just as good as the second half of S1, if not better. There's been a lot of Trek royalty who have appeared, including Jeffrey Combs as a new character, John DeLancie, Jonathan Frakes, Marina Sirtis, Robert Duncan McNeill, and just this week Alice Krige.

So yes, I would absolutely push through S1. You need to see the weaker episodes to get to know the characters. But the weaker eps really do vanish quickly and your patience will be fully rewarded.

Also, the music has been stellar. Lots of Goldsmith quotes and other musical injokes including several Jones quotes, especially this week, where music was used nearly verbatim from BoBW. Westlake has been a genius of satarizing the Berman era TV sound. His knowledge of ST music and its intricacies shows in the quality of his scores. I'd very much like to see him go on to bigger things; he's clearly wicked talented.

Love this! It reminds me of the TAS Theme and of Broughton's THE ORVILLE in some places.

I'm very glad to hear that LOWER DECKS seems to find its voice later in the season. I admit I gave up after the first couple of shows. I will try again!

You really will have to stick it out to the end of season 1 to fairly judge, I think, but luckily that isn't very hard considering it's only 10 episodes and they are each under half an hour. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!

You're absolutely right. One should give a series a chance. If you'd judge TNG by its first couple of shows...

I'll report back and share my thoughts.

What I liked instantly was Westlake score though.

Wow. This is the most "Trek" sounding soundtrack since The Orville (or Star Trek Enterprise)... I like it. I really like it. The order of the tracks is totally random, needs a lot of re-shuffling to create a good flow. My favorites so far:

-Main / End Titles
-Leg Day
-City Escape
-What Are Your Orders, Captain?
-Saying Goodbye
-The Cerritos
-The Real Mariner

But I don't think that I give this show another try... I just don't like animations, especially in Trek. In fact, since Enterprise's bad finale "These Are The Voyages..." I disliked every new Star Trek. It just don't work for me anymore... Every show now tries to be anything excluding Star Trek:

JJ Films: Space action instead of opera
Discovery: Game of Thrones in space (Discovery has about the same quality writing like GoT S7 & 8)
Picard: X-Men's "Logan", but stretched over 10 episodes (wtf is this show?)
Lower Decks: Simpsons / Family Guy (I don't like animations and I dislike them even more if they have Star Trek in their name)

It just don't work for me that these shows co-exist in the same universe with TOS, TNG, DS9, VOY & ENT. My Star Trek canon ends just before ENT's last episode because for me fan fiction level of bad writing, f-bombs, sex, unlikeable characters, violence, too many lense-flares & animations don't belong into this franchise.
Alex Kurtzman should try something new: Making a ST show, that feels like a ST show. I would watch it.

In fact, the only show that captures the 90' Star Trek feeling is The Orville (not completely but compared to DIS, PIC & LD it's by far the closest IMHO).

Just as good as I hoped it'd be. Also if anyone wants more of Chris Westlake's work, the album for Solar Opposites is available and very good.
