Music Box shipping to UK for the 2 CD Cold Mountain release is 17 euros. It's just getting silly.

From Music Box site: Brexit Information for our UK Customers: Due to Brexit, UK administration asks all foreign companies to collect VAT from all orders under 135£ (around 150 euros) excluding shipping costs. As our accounting system cannot separate UK VAT and French VAT, we cannot accept orders under 135£ for now. Our temporary solution is that we allow our UK customers to only place orders higher than 135£ (excluding shipping costs), so we don't need to collect VAT from UK orders. The price of all items is now indicated without VAT if you are UK resident. If your initial order does not reach 135£, you can add later more items by contacting us. We will add manually new items to your pending order. Then we will be able to ship it when all items are in stock. Thank you for your understanding.

The writing was on the wall last year. I bought Superman LLL, The Swarm, Romeo and Juliet (Rota) The Thing, The Cowboys, Disaster Film Box Set (Williams) and Dracula (Williams) from Music Box France (I'm in the UK). I have now stopped buying CD's mainly due to the almost doubling of the cost of said item due to shipping costs. NOW if the labels dont get wise and start offering/negotiating lossless downloads as part of their license agreements with the studios, then many will go bust. Have you seen the way the pandemic has affected the likes of Intrada and others? They are out of stock of almost everything. Pressing plants are but a few these days. Gone are the days when I could load my cart with Goldsmith and Barry titles from Intrada and spend a few hundred in one go. They were pretty much stocked up with most things. The pandemic has given me more free time to organise my ITUNES library and do 2 backups and make sure ALL my CD's on the shelf were archived with their lossless encoder. NOW I have supported these labels for years and before someone berates me for downloading from "free" sites, I have discovered a site where I can sometimes get a FLAC download of the latest releases. Hell I got Midnight Cowboy and ET this way. Im willing to do this now and perhaps sacrifice a little in quality but save so much money in the long term. I would be the first to download a 24bit 96khz FLAC of the latest Goldsmith or Barry release if it were offered by LLL Intrada or Quartet in the future and PAY for it if I knew it was a high res file superior to the CD version. I NEVER thought I would say this but speciality film music sites better have a deep think about the future.

Do we know what the VAT implications will be if someone orders a big order on behalf of other people? Presumably the obligation to pay the VAT simply shifts from Music Box to the person importing the order. On the plus side, it would bring the postage and customs admin fees down per unit. Cheers

Sigh. Can't we just re-join EU? I think Scotland will be first in the queue for that. England is years away as long as it's run by the old Etonian Colonialists lol

Sigh. Can't we just re-join EU? Don't forget the E.U. is introducing the same VAT requirement for overseas sellers as of 1st July this year, I believe. So ultimately it's going to affect quite a chunk of people. Unless of course the U.K.'s experience puts them off. We'll have to wait and see. Yep, this was a EU directive brought in a while back - it has nothing to do with Brexit other than the start date. The EU have longed to be rid of the Low Value Exemption and to introduce more protectionist measures - this being one of them. They got the LVE reduced several years back and now they finally managed to get it's full removal. They delayed it's introduction until 1st July. The UK kept the original date to tie in with Brexit. This will affect all US (and other countries) shipping to the UK as well as the EU eventually. It's part of their measures to encourage it's population to buy from within the EU rather than from outside, or if people do then they don’t buy items VAT free which would make them cheaper than domestic items. The fact that a large number of soundtrack releases are only available from the US wouldn't even register nor the myriad of other items not available through the domestic market. Of course the EU do have Quartet & Music Box. The UK, now outside the EU, has nothing. If anything, Brexit does mean that the UK could change the law again at some point. Not that I think they will, at least not anytime soon, but it’s something we are able to do now we no longer have to follow EU law. So while it's just the UK at present which may affect the labels - or the sales to the UK just aren't worth worrying about, soon the same issue will affect all their EU customers. Maybe that will see them do something about it, maybe it won't. Maybe they will be just as happy just selling to their domestic customers. Either way, short of them registering for UK/EU VAT and doing the relevant admin or for them to set up an outlet in the UK/EU for their product, or a UK outlet starts up and sells their titles, we're going to have to either pay up or go without.

I've already missed out on Dragons Domain's Don Davis Collection, Volume 1. Issued on CD in Nov for $17.99 it seems its now gone. Ebay has it for £56... 3 times the cost. This might just kill me as a collector.

This might just kill me as a collector. Well why didn't you buy it when it was released? You would have avoided all this VAT stuff. Fair comment, but on the precise day it became available at my usual outlet (MovieMusic) I had no cash in my account. A couple of days later when I did, it was sold out and hasn't come back in... and will probably now never do so. It must be the only Dragons Domain Title that has ever sold out, and now also the only one I haven't got. Although I suppose it'll be the first of an ever growing list.

I forget that people don't always have the money to buy stuff right away. Being retired, I'm so glad I'm out of the rat race & not worrying (too much) about money. I'm retired too. On UK State Pension, but there's always a long list of things to spend it on. Maybe this VAT thing will be a blessing in disguise.
