Rolling Stone "compiled the 35 greatest soundtracks of all time as chosen by an esteemed panel of 14 reissue record label owners and indebted musicians."

A bit heavy on the ol' Carpenter (good as he is), but that's a pretty cool list!

I'll compile my own one of these days.

Yes. Number 15.

The Mephisto Waltz should have been there. Maybe Wojciech Kilar's Francis Ford Coppola's Bram Stoker's Dracula.

Glad they got one JG and one BH on there. Putting the Halloween franchise at 1 & 2 feels like they just gave up at the end.

Hellraiser at 30? Psycho at 15? Omen at 8?
Sorry, have to strongly disagree! Omen should be higher
and the other two should be in the top ten.
A third of the list, I have never heard of the movie.

At the top of my list would be the soundtrack for Night of the Living Dead. (Yes, I know it's library cues)

So glad I got the CD from Zero Day Releasing.

There are TWO amazing things happening every single time someone posts a list that some website has published:

1. People are upset that one or several established classics are not included, as if it were some list of established, "objective" classics only (how boring would THAT have been; every single list looking exactly the same time after time?)
2. People are upset that THEIR favourites are not included, as if it's some personal affront that other people don't share their preferences.

Personally, I find such lists entertaining because they offer a glimpse into someone's subjective evaluations (or, in this case, a group of people); not because they MUST adher to my own picks, or some 'common truth'.

[I think I'm going to copy/paste this post every time a list thing happens]

We don't have the luxury of getting our opinions published in Rolling Stone, hence the reason I think people tend to gravitate towards that behavior of sharing their own opinions, otherwise what would be the point of commenting on the post except to say "thanks for sharing"? It's not something that is exclusive to this board--anytime I see a list on a video game forum, there are always people crying foul about their favorite not being included. Everyone just wants to be heard.

Indeed, everyone can and should share their own favs. But there's no reason to get one's "panties in a twist", as it were. I just find it amusing how some people find it an OUTRAGE that this or that title is not included.

Hey Thor, I think you're jumping the gun. I didn't read anything that indicated that anybody was getting that wound up. Just opinions. Yes, these lists are entertaining, and they're grist for discussion: validation, dismissal, and suggestions.

We're talking film music here, and with rare exception, not even Oscar-winning film music, so nobody's going postal.

Yikes. Kinda synth heavy list they got goin' on there. And I love synths.

No one from any of our favorite soundtrack labels were consulted ? But looks like the vinyl labels the cool kids are crazy for had heavy input - which kinda explains a lot of the choices.

Opinions are opinions. Meh. Just another list to argue over. big grin

I will respond if I can ever get the link to completely load. I have tried three different browsers.

Maybe I don't need to know.

2. Omen
3. Rosemary's Bay
4. The Ghost & Mrs. Muir
5. Dawn of the Dead
6. Amityville II
7. The House that Dripped Blood
8. The Adominable Dr. Phibes
9. The Shining
10. Scanners

I am not complaining about the list. I haven't seen some of the movies on the list, and I don't buy horror soundtracks to listen to. I guess I'm a bit confused by the word "horror." A few of those films were science fiction movies, so I admit I'm surprised that Goldsmith's ALIEN was not on the list. I thought the movie had some futuristic themes, but I also considered it a horror film, and the movie's music really added to my fear factor.

A Clockwork Orange - horror?? They must be mad.
No Alien? A gross oversight. It's certainly more horror than science fiction.
And only one from Shore? I'd easily pick Scanners before Videodrome, or even The Fly.
