Just curious and what are your thoughts on it. Was it worth it? What did you pay for it? What was the Original Price when it was first sold?

Thanks.

I did. Loved all the Rosenman stuff and the Deadly Tower.

I own the set, and I am very glad to have it. I technically paid nothing for the set, as I got it when FSM was doing a promotion where you got the omnibus as a bonus gift if you bought $100+ of FSM cds. As for the original price, it is still in print, and being sold for $59.95. I am pretty sure that is what it was offered for when it was first released.

Same here. I had my wife originally place the order and we got the set. I just finally broke the seal on mine and I've been enjoying the Duning, Then Came Bronson score.

I bought it straight out the gate and was happy to pay full whack for the variety of wonders contained therein.
Premiere releases of scores by John Williams, Jerry Fielding, Dave Grusin, Billy Goldenberg and Lalo Schifrin (for starters) was too exciting to resist.
I love the whole thing and each time I return to it, I discover something new to enjoy.
Of course, it helps if you're a 'dyed in the wool' Silver Age fan of 70's TV scores.
It's a shame it didn't sell well enough to trigger a Vol 2 frown

I was secretly hoping for a Vol. 2 focusing on Universal TV...

The highlight of this set IMHO is ASSIGNMENT VIENNA full lenght CD by Dave Grusin, an absolute top 70ies spy adventure funky score with great cymbalum featured...

I badly miss a highly expected TV OMNIBUS VOL 2 box set that never came....

That was my favourite bit of the set too, although some of the tracks sounded a bit too 'samey'. I'm afraid the other TV shows didn't really grab me at all.

The great thing about the set was that it was possibly the first really good look at a TV score compilation on CD. The pity for me though was that most of it was unfamiliar territory to me to start with. And anyway, most of my favourite American TV music was from Universal shows, which was a no-no at the time for any of the labels, let alone FSM...

Well if you're going to hire a composer (George Duning) for a late 1960s series aimed at Ver Kids who hated popular music...(which wasn't a problem at Columbia.)That's going to be a problem...

I bought it. About 60 dollars, or whatever the equivalent was in euros back then. Isn't it still available at the same price? Yup, great set, well worth it. Being such a mixed bag, it wasn't going to be ALL 5-star brilliance though. The original announcement thread had, I think, the most posts containing rabbits and waffles, if you care to wade through it all, zooba.

This TV Omnibus: Volume One is real happiness. Art director Joe Sikoryak achieves an attractive and engrossing layout that recaptures the zeitgeist. My top scores list for this compilation is composed of Rosenman’s “The Phantom of Hollywood”, Ellis’ “The Deadly Tower”, Fielding’s “Shirts/Skins”, Mellé’s “The Forest Primeval”, Schifrin’s “Earth II” and Goldenberg’s “High Risk”. Despite reduced and brief notes due to the length of the set, you learn more about some of these composers (Gil Mellé, Lalo Schifrin and Billy Goldenberg) unlike the official experts who managed to write about them: a real paradox. Liner notes author Jon Burlingame previously took care of another 5-CD set that I recommend: Lalo Schifrin Film Scores Vol. 1 which foreshadows the two Schifrin television scores (the long-running series Medical Center and the telefilm The Mask of Sheba) for the next volume.

I purchased a copy when originally announced. Very enjoyable. I believe intrada then came Bronson set was to be part of a possible volume 2.

I did, and it's great (if a bit of a mixed bag, by design: something for everyone). My favorite work by far was the Dave Grusin Assignment: Vienna. In fact it's probably my favorite work by Grusin! So catchy, and I'm a sucker for the cimbalom. Next favorite would be the Duning and Melle music for Then Came Bronson. The other half of the set is interesting too (sometimes I'm surprised how much I like something like Shirts/Skins) though I listen to it less often.

I'd considered this (but never too seriously) on previous sales and when I saw this as a Sky Fighter perk (75% off) I decided it was a steal. As pointed out it is a mixed bag. I tend to re-listen to the Grusin most, which surprised me...

I didn't exactly buy it, I got it during one of those SAE/FSM sales when they offered it gratis if you bought $100 worth of stuff in one go. smile It's a great set, with so much variety.

Why did your wife place the order?

More importantly, why do you feel the need to tell us ?

By the time of this album, we had dived pretty deep into the M-G-M library and I thought that doing some larger collections might be a good way to release what was mostly obscure material—hence the David Raksin and Lalo Schifrin multi-disc sets, and this one.

In the end, the price point was so high on 5CD sets—and the albums took so much work to produce—that nothing really came together to do any further volumes of the TV material, from M-G-M or anyplace else.

I seem to remember that Then Came Bronson had all been transferred as part of a WB preservation project, so I had it all on hand, and brought the later album to Intrada. I really like that music.

Assignment: Vienna by Grusin on this collection is terrific!

My favorites are Goldenberg's High Risk, the "Johnny" Williams music from The Eleventh Hour and Duning's pilot score for Then Came Bronson. I also later picked up the Intrada album of Bronson and love it, especially the Duning stuff. High Risk really whetted my appetite for a multi-disc set of Goldenberg's great TV work, but sadly this has never come to pass. Not sure how much of it still exists, but I love the great TV music from the 60s and 70s in particular and would happily fork over a goodly sum for a Vol. 2., or something like a Columbo or more general NBC Mystery Movie set. One can dream... But all thanks to Lukas for a job well done on this one and the entire FSM catalog.
