La-La Land has announced their December scheduled of CD releases (not including the CDs they will announce on "Black Friday" to be releaesed in December).

This week they have released the score for the brand new horror film JESSABELLE. The screenplay was written by, of all people, Robert Ben Garant (co-writer of the Night at the Museum films and best known as "Deputy Travis Junior" on the long-running Reno 911!, which he co-created), and the film was scored by Anton Sanko, whose eclectic resume includes Party Girl, Rabbit Hole, and the just-released Ouija.

On November 18 they will release a two-disc set featuring the scores for both versions of MIRACLE ON 34TH STREET, scored by Cyril Mockridge and Bruce Broughton respectively, as well as the score for COME TO THE STABLE by Mockridge; a two-disc set featuring James Dooley's music for the games SOCOM 3: U.S. NAVY SEALS and SOCOM: U.S. NAVY SEALS COMBINED ASSAULT; and Vincent Diamante's music for the game FLOWER.

The latest CD from Kritzerland is the first-ever release of Dave Grusin's jazzy score for the 1984 romantic drama FALLING IN LOVE, pairing B-movie hacks Robert DeNiro and Meryl Streep.

Quartet has announced three upcoming CDs -- the first-ever release of Philippe Sarde's score for JOSHUA THEN AND NOW, the 1986 adaptation of Mordechai Richter's novel directed by the ever-eclectic Ted Kotcheff (Outback, The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz, First Blood, Weekend and Bernie's), and two score CD composed by Oscar-winner Nicola Piovani, THE NIGHT OF THE SHOOTING STARS and DANIELE E MARIA.

Intrada plans to release one new CD next week.

DID THEY MENTION THE MUSIC?

CAMP X-RAY - Jess Stroup

"Meanwhile, Jess Stroup’s score is full of harmony that illustrates the tense atmosphere as movingly as the awkwardly-on-purpose chemistry between Stewart and Moaadi."

Nikola Grozdanovic, The Playlist

DRACULA UNTOLD - Ramin Djawadi

"The acting, for the most part, is flat. The special effects are underwhelming; the musical score is a bombastic mish-mash. Basically, this 'Dracula' needs to be buried in a cinematic coffin overladen with garlic and crucifixes."

Bob Bloom, Lafayette Journal & Courier

FELONY - Bryony Mark

"Mark Wareham’s needle-sharp lensing, Geoff Hitchins’ crisp cutting and Bryony Mark’s driving score amp up the angst."

Ronnie Scheib, Variety

LILTING - Stuart Earl

"The rather uninspired score distracts from the film's emotional potency and, although it's crisply and sensitively shot, the sporadic tendency toward a bright, bleached aesthetic (a style which cinematographer Urszula Pontikos employed to better effect in the superb Weekend) dilutes its visual impact."

Emma Simmonds, The List

"Apart from a slightly overused score, the tech package is quite strong on a limited budget, from the muted, wintry tones of Ula Pontikos’ HD lensing to production designer Miren Maranon’s spare but lovingly furnished interiors."

Justin Chang, Vairety

NIGHTCRAWLER - James Newton Howard

"Lou is also a sick person who, on first glance, might strike you as a reasonable, personable guy. He talks like a Tom Cruise go-getter from a 1980s hit -- a comparison furthered by certain filmmaking choices, such as the 'inspirational' montages of Lou hustling toward success while James Newton Howard's triumphant retro synth-pop pounds in our eardrums."

Matt Zoller Seitz, RogerEbert.com

"The visuals look great, but the audio is iffy. Specifically, the score. Veteran James Newton Howard ('The Hunger Games') composes what sounds like either temp music used for editing or the soundtrack to a Cinemax thriller from the ’80s. It doesn’t even work ironically."

Jon Niccum, Kansas City Star

"Debut director Dan Gilroy has crafted a characterful satire that doesn't say much that's original but which skewers its targets with humour and flair. An 80s-style soundtrack envelops proceedings in an appositely seedy veil, with ironically fist-pumping musical accompaniments flanking Lou's rise, while an act of violence at the outset leaves a legacy of tension throughout."

Emma Simmonds, The List

"'Nightcrawler' has some slight issues before it find its rhythm in the form of clunky exposition, montages and on-the-nose thematic monologues. It’s unsure of itself at first. Even the excellent moody score by James Newton Howard takes time to synch up with the picture."

Rodrigo Perez, The Playlist

"For a first-time feature, 'Nightcrawler' benefits from an accomplished technical package, highlighted by sharp widescreen cinematography from Robert Elswit (who’s worked regularly with Paul Thomas Anderson) that captures the L.A. backdrops in an array of bright color, and a score by James Newton Howard that recalls the hypnotic melodies he composed for Michael Mann’s 'Collateral' – another City of Angels noir set during the wee hours of the night, and for which this film feels like a distant, crazy cousin: one whose weapon of choice is the camera itself."

Jordan Mintzer, Hollywood Reporter
