It's always a challenge to decide what to listen to in the car. Today I picked Ace Eli and Rodger of the Skies to accompany a partly sunny, nicely temperate morning, perfect for rolling down the windows.

It turned out to be an inspired choice.

Room 222 started things out with Jerry's pleasant recorder-based tune. It's all so, well, sunny and nice. Later, Ace Eli began and I found myself repeating the track A New Plane. What a terrifically Americana sort of accompaniment to gently cruising down city streets on a beautiful day.

It made me start thinking about putting together a compilation of similar feeling pieces.

I'd put in the long form version of Room 222 and Ace Eli's "A New Plane" track. A cut or two from The Flim Flam Man would work. I'd put in something from James Newton Howard's Man in the Moon and probably the "Plymouth Waltz" from his Promised Land. There must be a piece from Field of Dreams that would fit nicely. I bet there's some Randy Newman that belongs and maybe something from the admittedly oddball Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.

Hmmm.

What else?

Great topic! How about...

MARK ISHAM
- The Education of Little Tree – “She’s Comin’ Alive” (or the very similar “A Secret Place), “At Notched Gap”, or “The Education of Little Tree”
- A River Runs Through It – “A Land Filled With Wonder” or “The Wild Ride”

JOHN WILLIAMS
- Stanley & Iris – “The Bicycle” or “End Credits”
- Conrack – Suite

I'm not sure if I'm on exactly the right track, but you could try...

"Bus Ride to Paradise" or "Play the Game" from One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (Jack Nitzsche)
"Family" from A Map of the World (Pat Metheny)
"Florida Fantasy" from Midnight Cowboy (John Barry)
"Asphalt Groovin'" or "Picnic" from Sideways (Rolfe Kent)
and, if you don't mind a song with actual lyrics and vocals, "Drown in Small Cowgirl Boots" by Jolene from the Election soundtrack.

Sounds like Jerry Goldsmith's "Gift From The Sea" (Papillon) would fit in nicely followed by the title track from "Swept Away" (Piero Piccioni) and maybe the vocal "Sail The Summer Winds" from "The Dove" (John Barry).
