I am in the process of purchasing the Tadlow release of El Cid and along the way note that they also have Exodus available. Can anyone recommend this? I have the original release of Gold's score but would love an extended version.

I think Tadlow is a class act and cannot help but think this is a worthy purchase.

I think it's a good recording. And since we're not likely to get a release of the original again, I will recommend it.

I could have lived without most of the contents on disc two, but disc one is worth the cost of the 2 disc set easily.

If you love the score to EXODUS, then it's very much recommended.

So if we already have the original recording, you're saying that disc 1 makes it still worth buying this set???

Since the original has always sounded thin and harsh, and the Tadlow sounds typically excellent, I'd say it's a no-brainer. The score needs pruning, but you'll have to make the cuts yourself.

You are 110 percent correct - it's a stunner.

Yes, I would say so. It is an excellent re-recording, as many have mentioned. And I really don't believe the original recording can be improved much audio-wise. I also own the original by the way.

Originally, EXODUS (on vinyl of course) was the very first soundtrack album that I owned, so it is kind of special for me in that way. But at the moment, it is the Tadlow recording that I most have on my CD player when I want to hear that score.

James Fitz said somewhere that this was the album he's most proud of producing.

The extra material is very good too in my opinion.

You've convinced me! And even though I seem to have ALL the "True Grit" recordings, including the new L-L-L, I'm enjoying the Tadlow of it too. Ten minutes later, and I just ordered it, along with the 2-CD set of "Lawrence of Arabia."

Really? In 50 years I've never heard anyone say that.

You really think the original is thin sounding? I think it is extremely thick as well as harsh. And the poster who said the sound could not be improved on the original must have strange playback hardware.

since the subject of purchasing El Cid was mentioned by edzwoomom, can anybody recommend this cd in terms of breadth of sound, orchestration and harmony by those who have it? thanks a lot.

There were two different recordings with the same track titles. One used a much smaller orchestra and was mono, though the pieces were longer, whilst the other was the original London recording with shorter pieces. Neither was wonderful, though the latter was infinitely better.

Are you asking about 'El Cid'?

Since the composer's original sheets were used, how could it be otherwise than as he composed it? A great release.

The Tadlow EL CID is strongly recommended. It's complete and a rousing version of the score.

This is why I love it when a thread stays on a positive note. I get the sincere feedback I am looking for, other members get recommendations on releases they might wish to purchase and reputable labels who post here like Tadlow get exposure and get to sell some of their goods - in other words a win win for everyone.

Tadlow's Exodus is on my to buy list - thanks folks.

In the past couple of weeks I've bought Tadlow's "True Grit," "Exodus," and "Lawrence Of Arabia," and they ALL sound great -- what a joy to have these wonderful scores with such sparklingly clear sonics!!! Which takes nothing away from previous recordings -- I continue to love my La-La-Land "True Grit" and previous versions of the others. Frankly, these later recordings are for those of us who can't seem to get enough of them!

Enjoy, Ron.

Their recording of 'Orrence is particularly impressive to my ears, it's the only version I listen to now that I have. Some great music on Disc 2 as well.
I would also recommend the Tadlow release of 'Private Life of Sherlock Holmes' by Rozsa, which is a wonderful score beautifully recorded (which reminds me, I still have to get 'Quo Vadis').
