I've whittled down my horror scores to key "Halloween-ish" tracks, and here's where I'm at. Some albums turned up multiple tracks, others turned up zero and were deleted from the playlist entirely.

66 tracks is a lot, but this is a more manageable playlist that I can come back to year-to-year, and add to as appropriate.

Army of Darkness - Prologue; Mach of the Dead
Beetlejuice - Main Titles
Book of Blood - Tollington House
Bram Stoker's Dracula - Dracula: The Beginning
Cabin Fever - Red Love/Virus Check
Chiller (Kunzel)- Overture from The Phantom of the Opera); Night on Bald Mountain
The Conjuring - Maurice; Souls Pulled In

Definitive Horror Music (Silva/CoPPO) - Drag Me To Hell; Hellbound: Hellraiser 2; The Thing; Dracula - Main Titles/Storm; Phantasm; Suspiria; The Exorcist; Rosemary's Baby

Donnie Darko - Carpathian Ridge; The Artifact & Living; Manipulated Living; Liquid Spear Waltz
Evil Dead 2013 - Don't Say It, Don't Write It, Don't Hear It; Abominations Rising; The Pendant/Evil Tango
The Fly - Plasma Pool
The Fly II - The Fly II
The Fog - Theme From The Fog; Matthew Ghost Story
The Fog (remake) - Epilogue
Friday the 13th Box - Overlay of Evil/Main Titles; Theme from Friday the 13tg Part 3; Here We Go Again (Opening Titles: Jason Lives)
Friday the 13th Part VII/Part VIII - End Credit (Part VII)
The Fury - Gillian's Vision
Gremlins - The Gremlins Rag
Halloween - Halloween Theme, Halloween 1978
The Happening - Princeton
Haunted Honeymoon - End Credits
House of the Devil - He's Calling You
The Howling - Openng Title/Phone Call/Dark Streets
Insidious - The Insidious Plane
Let Me In - Los Alamos
Mirrors II - Mirrors II
Night Breed - Mayhem in Midian; End Credits
The Omen - Ave Satani
The Omen 666 - Main Titles
Pee-Wee's Big Adventure - Clown Dream
Piranha 3D - Piranha
Psycho - Prelude
Red Dragon - Main Titles
Return to House on Haunted Hill - Return to House on Haunted Hill
Scary Music (Kunzel) - Attack of the Killer Tomatoes
Scream 3 - Last Call
Seed of Chucky - Main Title
Signs - Main Title
Sleepy Hollow - Main Titles; Evil Eye
Trick R Treat - End Credits
Varese 25th Anniversary - A Nightmare on Elm St main title
Wes Craven's New Nightmare - Safe at Last
Wolfman (Elfman) - The Madhouse
Wrong Turn 2 - Main Title
28 Weeks Later - Welcome to Britain

I guess what tracks you select depends on your point of view of what represents Halloween. I tend to leave out scifi scores like Alien or Predator as well as nature gone mad like jaws or grizzly. I go with monsters, witches, ghouls and ghosts and the occasional serial killer!

I consider Conti's COHEN & TATE and THE FORMULA Halloweeny since they're dark. Too bad Conti's NOMADS isn't on cd, it is an actual horror score.

Kilar's Dracula
Morricone's The Thing
Williams' Dracula
Carlos' The Shining
Goldenthal's Interview with the Vampire
Schifrin's Amityville Horror
Banos' Evil Dead (best 2013 score IMO)
Herrmann's Psycho
Goldsmith's Poltergeist
*****
Classical music would include

Danse Macabre (Saint Saens)
Symphony Fantastique (Berlioz)
Black Angels (Crumb)
Ligeti's REQUIEM (scariest music ever)

I love these cue lists. I've only had a chance to listen to one suggestion so far (dance of the witches) and I've already ordered The Witches Of Eastwick. Can't wait to check out the rest!

Speaking of Halloween playlists, isn't this about the time we start anticipating spooky releases from Intrada, LLL and the like? Any ideas? I'm still stuck on SALEM'S LOT from last year...what a set.

Speaking of Halloween playlists, isn't this about the time we start anticipating spooky releases from Intrada, LLL and the like? Any ideas? I'm still stuck on SALEM'S LOT from last year...what a set.

I'm not sure whether these labels necessarily release horror-themed scores around Halloween any more than they do any other time of the year, but last year LLL certainly surprised me with two incredible, unexpected October releases: Black Beauty and Day of the Dead. (I know Black Beauty isn't horror, but it does make me think of autumn, perhaps because I have a fond memory of first listening to LLL's release while walking my sister's dogs through the local cemetery.)

What do I—realistically—hope will arrive this October? A complete compilation of the music from Romero's Dawn of the Dead sure would be nice. Not sure how realistic of a hope that is, though.

I'm glad you brought this thread up since I was planning on starting/reanimating a similar thread as we neared October: what will you be listening to as you gear up for Halloween? We're midway through September now and it's never too early, in my book, to begin planning for Halloween.

Here's some of what I plan to play through October:

Alien - Jerry Goldsmith
Batman Forever - Elliot Goldenthal
Black Beauty - Danny Elfman
Day of the Dead - John Harrison
Escape from L.A. - John Carpenter & Shirley Walker
Evil Dead - Roque Baños
John Carpenter's The Fog - errr...
Godzilla '14 - Alexandre Desplat
House of Usher - Les Baxter
I Am Legend - James Newton Howard
King Kong - James Newton Howard
Scream - Marco Beltrami
The X-Files - Mark Snow

La La land's Creepshow, Day Of The Dead as well as the expanded Beat release of Frizzi's City Of The Living Dead will feature heavily for me this year.

Can anyone recommend fun tracks to play at a Halloween party? I thought the BEETLEJUICE main theme and "This is Halloween" from NIGHTMARE would be fun, interspersed between regular pop songs like "Spirit Got Lost" by Mental As Anything" and "Monster Mash". I don't want my guests to run screaming after playing the theme from THE OMEN! Horror pop song recommendations are welcomed, too.

I made not short Halloween playlist but list for Halloween marathon.

48 horror/thriller scores:
Carl Davis - Frankenstein Unbound; Cellar Of Rats - Scratches; Christopher Komeda - Rosemary's Baby; Claudio Gizzi - Blood For Dracula; Claudio Gizzi - Flesh For Frankenstein; James Horner - Wolfen (The Used Score); Craig Safan - Wolfen (The Unused Score); Dana Caproff - Empire Of The Ants; Dana Kaproff - When A Stranger Calls; Eckart Seeber - Bram Stoker's Shadow Builder; Fred Katz - The Little Shop Of Horrors; Gary McFarland - Eye Of The Devil; Guy Farley - Knife Edge; Guy Farley - Book Of Blood; Harry Manfredini - Friday The 13th: Parts 1-6;
Harry Sukman - Salem's Lot; Henry Mancini - Fear; Henry Mancini - Wait Until Dark; Jerry Goldsmith - Omen (Trilogy); Jonathan Sheffer - Omen IV- The Awakening; Jerry Goldsmith - Poltergeist I & II; Jerry Goldsmith - Twilight Zone: The Movie; John Morris - Haunted Honeymoon; John Williams - The Fury; Les Baxter - House Of Usher; Leith Stevens - I Married A Monster From Outer Space; Marc Wilkinson - Blood On Satan's Claw; Michael J. Lewis - Theater Of Blood; Paul Sawtell & Bert Shefter - The Fly & Return Of The Fly; Piero Piccioni - Sette Cadaveri Per Scotland Yard; Petri Alanko - Alan Wake & Alan Wake's American Nightmare; Pino Donaggio - Do You Like Hitchcock?; Pino Donaggio - Dressed To Kill; Pino Donaggio - The Howling; Pino Donaggio - Patrick; Richard Bellis - Stephen King's It; Rick Wilkins, Kenneth Wannberg & Howard Blake - The Changeling; Tom Hiel - Sharktopus.

As I check it, there is nothing "horror / thriller" in my current "order-list", so it's very doubtful that I will catch a time and add something new to this long list. But who knows? wink

I'd recommend throwing in some easter eggs for sharp-eared horror film fans at your party. Songs like "Hush" by Kula Shaker, "Hip to be Square" by Huey Lewis & The News, and "The Blue Wrath" by I Monster.

Haven't made a list, per se, but "The Witching Hour" from Poledouris' SPELLBINDER would certainly be on it.

Over the summer I discovered Christopher Young's HIDER IN THE HOUSE. An almost unheard of score from what I can tell, but it's really unsettling; Perfect for the season.
