Yeah, this film was a real sleeper, mistakenly promoted by Warner as a warm and fuzzy nostalgia romp. It was actually a tragic drama, wonderfully acted and written. Betsy Slade was the first runner up for the title role of CARRIE. In fact, she was considered the leader before Sissy Spacek stole her thunder. I did a play with Betsy at the Mark Taper Forum here in LA and then we recreated our roles for a PBS Theater in America taping - she was great and it's a shame her career basically went in the toilet - I know not why. Further trivia: Her understudy was Debra Lee Scott. My understudy was John Voldstadt (the Bob Newhart Show), and Betsy's sister is Mink Stole, who appeared in a few John Waters films.

Fascinating trivia. I recall seeing Betsy on a PBS broadcast way back when, which much later appeared on DVD. It was called FORGET-ME-NOT LANE, if memory serves. I guess I forgot-it-not. Debralee Scott also appeared in OUR TIME, along with Betsy and Pamela Sue Martin. Mink Stole was/is Betsy's sister? I had no idea! That's the show we did - Forget-Me-Not Lane - in fact, I'm on the cover of the DVD.

Just finally watched this film via the Warner Archive DVD...what a heartbreaker. Could anyone else, at that time, but Legrand, score this film? Since this is a Warner title, a dual soundtrack release, along with Legrand's ODE TO BILLY JOE (also a WB title and also a tragic '70s teen romantic drama) would be swell. And, thanks for the info on Betsy Slade. She blew me away in this and I wish we'd been able to see more of her. According to an interview that Larry Karaszewski did with Pamela Sue Martin a few years back, at a double feature screening of LADY IN RED and OUR TIME at the Aero, Slade and Martin did not get along at all...it just makes their performances all the more impressive.

Also appearing in OUR TIME, as one of Pamela Sue and Betsy's school friends, was Nora Heflin (daughter of composer Sol Kaplan and actress Frances Heflin, and niece of Van Heflin), as well as Jerry Hardin, as one of the adult chaperones at the school dance. Heflin and Hardin would later appear together in Joan Micklin Silver's terrific romantic dramedy CHILLY SCENES OF WINTER.

When MICHEL wrote a theme or melody for a film it nearly always had a memorable touch to it.He surely had the MELODIC TOUCH whatever film it was. For example THE HUNTER-80- action film ,lovely end theme.

Very interesting nuggets of trivia. I've often heard that Pamela Sue Martin could be difficult. A friend of mine attended one of those Hollywood Celebrity conventions some years ago. Although Pamela Sue Martin and her OUR TIME co-star Debralee Scott were both at that convention, Ms. Scott declined an invitation to pose for a photo with Ms. Martin. Neither of the actresses wished to acknowledge the presence of the other. Another interesting trivia nugget. Thanks, John.

Never ever heard of this but after listening to the YouTube clip twice, I can't get that gorgeous theme out of my head...I'm sure I'll be humming it all day tomorrow. Legrand never seems to write a bad score...such an incredible career he's had. Thanks for posting this, and yes, a release of this little known score would be wonderful! Check out the film via Warner Archive; it's a good one: http://shop.warnerarchive.com/product/our+time+1000180043.do?sortby=ourPicks&refType=&from=Search

A year later Legrand wrote an equally gorgeous theme for a film whose score has never been released: SHEILA LEVINE IS DEAD AND LIVING IN NEW YORK. Both are very short scores and would make an amazing combo CD. I am assuming that given Bruce Kimmel’s association with Betsy Slade and affection for the score, he has tried to release the score at some point.
