That said, try The Shadow (1994) by Jerry Goldsmith. While the film has become sort of a cult affair with those who love it and who hate it, I think the score itself is generally admired by those who are familiar with it (Intrada has a 2-disc version out now). The film has rather dark tones and themes on the surface, but it knows and respects (playfully) its pulpy source material, drawn from both the magazines and radio plays, and never strays too far from its matinee fare offering of upbeat fun. I think the music reflects this.
On a similar note, I think David Newman's The Phantom would be a good recommendation as well.

From the more recent batch of superhero films, not much to recommend except Alan Silvestri's Captain America, a throwback-type score with a big, bold, fun orchestral sound and a great theme.
