My appreciation for his music is ever-increasing and if you're not familiar with him, both Heavy Metal 2000 and Robot Jox are on Spotify right now. Good starting points!
Heavy Metal 2000 is masterful, one of the best sci fi scores I can think of. The orchestrations are fantastic. I'd say it's probably the equal of Elmer Bernstein's original. Even if it lacks a theme as memorable as "Taarna" it makes up for it with interesting textures and motifs.
Talgorn is ace. I've been into his music for many years now. His style is VERY close to John Williams, which is probably why I like his music so much. He's another composer who seems to have bags of talent but doesn't get the breaks (I think he scored some French dudes less successful films UNTIL their last one, which went on to become a monster worldwide hit...Intouchables?). I read he came to Hollywood in the 80's, but because he didn't have a bullshit filter, upset lots of people and returned to France, probably before he strangled some exec or other. Those unfamiliar with his work should check out Le Brasier, Asterix at the Olympics, The Red Needles, Infants of Templebach and the Little Prince. All great scores in the grand tradition.
I have the DVD of that film Francis (Edgar Allan Poe's BURIED ALIVE) but the jacket states Directed by Gerard Kilkoine...did Darabont use a pseudonym? I haven't gotten 'round to watching it yet.

You are correct yes, it's by Gerard Kilkoine. The Darabont is a different (tv) movie of the same year. I mixed both of them up, been ages since I saw them. I also had the edgar allen poe adapted "Buried Alive" on vhs long time ago, might still have it. It's not that good and there is little connection to Poe's work lol. But the music was ok.
Talgorn is the only current composer who is an automatic buy for me, whatever the score.
Best film music composer. I would like to see him scoring Star Wars, Star Trek or a Indiana Jones movie. Heck any movie... he's composing style is really in my alley.
Anthony Zimmer is also a nice score, Basic Instinct like.
Absolutely love, love, love THE TEMP and ROBOTJOX.
THE TEMP is a fantastic suspense score. I love how Talgorn utilizes the ondes martenot to represent Peter's (Timothy Hutton) fragile mental state.
ROBOTJOX has some great muscular action cues and nice, quieter moments ("The Traitor" is a highlight).
Still, no mention of this, which is in dire need of a re-release?
As soon as I found out there was a soundtrack of "Robotjox", I had to have it. It's great although the the overture starts is weird, it's as if you come into the cinema and the film has started already. From all the reviews I have read, I am the only one who really like the "Jock strap bar" track. Same goes for the film self.
The "Delta force" soundtrack sounds too much like "Robotjox" to me to want it. The film itself is fanatastic. The end scene with the roped protagonists is something that surpasses many of the James Bond films and is both imaginative and exhillerating.
Yes, great example - this is epic! Talgorn is one of the very few, the select few composers who can produce that rich and thrilling symphonic sound we associate with Williams or Broughton.
