Two string quartets and a string trio. Any one heard these? Have they been recorded before?
Could be interesting anyway.
The Flesch Quartet has recorded the two String Quartets along with the sonata for two violins. I have not imported this into my Itunes library, so I haven't listened to it yet.
The Pro Arte Quartet has recorded both String Quartets (#2 being the world premier recording), along with the Rhapsody for cello and piano.
I'm not sure about the string trio. Anyway, it is interesting. I would recommend getting at least one recording...
After more than one listen of this CD I'm only impressed by the trio, not the quartets.
An interesting response, since the Trio, from Rozsa's student days in Germany, is arguably the least "Rozsa-like" of all his works -- in the sense that he had not yet managed to integrate his native Hungarian ethos with the Germano-classical tradition toward which he aspired. For myself, I've always loved the First Quartet but have never warmed to the Second.
