Elliot Goldenthal's score is a masterpiece in need of expansion. How is it that the positively adequate but unmemorable Alien: Resurrection score has been expanded and the genius of Alien 3 has not? Can anyone shed light on this?

Wasn't it something to do with the availability of the tapes? (I thought I'd heard something like that.) Or perhaps rights issues? Just a guess on my part, as that's usually why these things happen....

The score is isolated on the Blu Ray.

The score is isolated on the Blu Ray.

Yes, but unlike the iso scores for the other 3 movies this one is not from the original sessions, with lots of edits and volume fluctuations. My favourite unreleased track (preparing the trap) has lots of volume drops.

Here's a thread on the issues with that isolated score:

I think in another thread MV mentioned that the issue was not missing materials, but something related to Goldenthal. I hope it is true and the materials exist in good shape, so it may be released someday!

I like the album, and the isolated Blu-ray score is ripped to my iPod, but a remastered, complete presentation of this score would be an ultimate holy grail for me, right next to Herrmann's Obsession. This is one of the most amazing, forward thinking scores in the history of the medium, and has genius in virtually every note. Goldenthal has come close to equaling it on a few occasions, but this is still his defining work for me.
