I actually love this score more than Edward Scissorhands. I think Edward blew me away more at first (the oohing choir), but for some reason I got a bit tired of it over the course of the years. Black Beauty, on the other hand, I just keep falling more and more in love with -- it's just gorgeous, exciting, inventive, magical...I think it is Elfman's greatest score, apart from his magnum opus, The Nightmare Before Christmas. However, if we turn our attention to Dolores....

Oh my yes, "black Beauty" is indeed a beautiful score and I think one of his unquestionable best scores. I hold it as one of my favorites by him. It's in my Top 5 Elfman. For those curious, the Top 5 Elfman are (in no special order): 1. "Black Beauty" 2. "Edward Scissorhands" 3. "Mission: Impossible" 4. "Anywhere But Here" 5. "Family Dog" (that special from Amazing Stories)

Playing this today for the first time in forever and reminded how lovely it is.

Playing this today for the first time in forever and reminded how lovely it is. Snap! And yes, same feeling, it really is an utterly entrancing score, wonderfully melancholy and memorable thematic material but with just the right touch of warmth when needed, gently understated (without being dull) but with moments of heightened drama as required. It was one of those those scores after his more quirky earlier efforts when Elfman's more serious and subtle side started to emerge in the mid to late 90s).

A lovely score, one of his Top 10 best (in my personal opinion). Highly recommended. Make sure to get it if it's still available, people. :-)

Not only one of Elfman's Top 10 (Top 5, I'd say), but one of the most gorgeous scores of all time. Rivaled only by Edward Scissorhands on the heartstring-plucking scale.
