I'm surprised this doesn't get more mention with the 80's-centric crowd we have here, particularly since it has a silver age nexus with Marvin Hamlisch scoring. D.A.R.Y.L. was one of those prototypical family-centric 80's movies where you had a silly, high concept plot treated with care and utter seriousness by the filmmakers. The score was no different, mixing portentious action beats with beautiful thematic material for the budding family relationship between the robot boy (yes) and his adoptive family. It seems ripe for the picking, coming from Paramount and never having gotten a release. I couldn't find any clips of the score but here's the end title song featuring the gorgeous main theme.
I like the film for the simple fact that it's a mid 80s film and that the makers took it serious without getting to youthy, sacharin or raunchy. The track above however I can do well without. The opening scene whith the whistling on the other hand is a bittersweet tune.

Same here, D.S. To hear the synopsis (and even, really, to look at the cheesy DVD art), you'd think this was total trash, but it's a surprisingly affecting family film. It would make a nice double feature with the goofier FLIGHT OF THE NAVIGATOR.
I thought something like this, with Hamlisch involved, might be up Bruce Kimmel's alley.

La-La Land Records and Paramount Pictures present the WORLD PREMIERE release of yet another 80’s classic – D.A.R.Y.L. This magnificent score was composed by another legend in the music industry – the late, great Marvin Hamlisch. If you grew up in the 80’s, this light hearted children’s sci-fi film was almost mandatory viewing on cable since it was probably shown at least twice a day on HBO for the entire decade! This La-La Land fav features a memorable and beautiful score by one of Hollywood’s most diverse and talented composers. Also on this release is the film’s title song – SOMEWHERE I BELONG, written by Hamlisch/Pitchford and performed by Teddy Pendergrass. Jeff Bond takes the listener deep inside the film’s history and the scores’ creation as Dan Goldwasser’s sure hand at art direction makes the whole thing look good.
I have only gold memories about this one: I have the same age than Barret Olivier, I discovered another movie with 'The Neverending Story' boy was done, so I urged my parents to bring me to theater. They did it! I never saw the movie since, so rediscovering the score will be fantastic! Thank you so much LLL gang!
I had this soundtrack in the car on my way to work today and after hearing track 18, "Hooker and Turtle To The Rescue" I thought that it reminded me of something else, especially the last 20 or so seconds of the track but I cannot remember what score it could be. I cannot let it go until this mystery is solved, any suggestions what it could be?
