Was there ever an official release of this soundtrack, whether on vinyl way back when or on a limited edition cd that now commands high prices on the aftermarket?

Was there ever an official release of this soundtrack . . .

No.

Eight minutes of the score were re-recorded by Laurie Johnson and the London Studio Symphony Orchestra on a 1981 LP (later a CD) on the Unicorn label. The album was titled "The Western Film World of Dimitri Tiomkin."

There were also numerous 45 RPM records issued of two songs in the film: "Rio Bravo" and "My Rifle, My Pony and Me."

Magic Records of France issued in 2007 a 10-track CD album, digitally remastered in High Definition 24-Bit, featuring the songs from the soundtrack of the movie.
Also included were studio versions of the songs as well as "Restless Kid", a song written by Johnny Cash which I believe was intended for the movie.
It also featured the De Guello by Nelson Riddle and an introduction by John Wayne.

Thanks for the info. I recently re-watched the film at the Museum of the Moving Image in Queens and wondered about a release.
