Can anybody identify this music? And maybe the musical genre and the dance? It's like a cross between swing and bossa nova.

It sure reminds me of Breakfast at Tiffany's, but it's not on that CD.

I want to say it's a mambo....though a bit of research says it's probably the sub-genre of 'cha-cha-cha'


As for what it is, no idea. It's similar to a couple of tracks from Silvestri's Soapdish but I don't believe that's it.

Yeah, it's one of those Latin dances! I never would have thought of Silvestri.

It is indeed a cha-cha. It sounds like a Perez Prado knockoff - it could have been Perez, but it cut off before the trumpets started squealing. It could also have been Billy May. Or any number of 1950s easy listening artists who had heard the 45 of "Cherry Pink and Apple Blossom White."

I'm a sucker for postwar latin music.

The two you really need to check out are Machito and Chico O'Farrill.
