It is indeed a cha-cha. It sounds like a Perez Prado knockoff - it could have been Perez, but it cut off before the trumpets started squealing. It could also have been Billy May. Or any number of 1950s easy listening artists who had heard the 45 of "Cherry Pink and Apple Blossom White."
