Does anyone have a recording of the complete version of this film or a copy of the soundtrack record?

Apparently, the original print has been lost so there is little chance of it ever being on television again.

Unfortunately, the US release on video some years ago was heavily edited losing two songs completely and part of a third.

I would love to have a copy of this, can anyone help?

David

I've never seen this or heard any of the songs. A commercial soundtrack album was never released, at least not in the U.S. Was there a promo LP?

Anthony Newley wrote the songs for this (music and lyrics). The score was arranged and conducted by Elmer Bernstein.

The Anthony Newley Appreciation Society released a Complete Quilp cd several years ago . It had the complete soundtrack as well as the Newley demos and promotional single

**********************************************************
Well now, that's news to me. Luckily, I was able to locate the QUILP Newley demo LP near the time of the film's release. I've e-mailed Paul Goodhead at "The Anthony Newley Appreciation Society" to see if there is any way to obtain their members-only QUILP CD. Joining fee for the USA is $30.00.

Here's the website link:

From the "JOIN" page:

As well as special events the Society produced it's first publication - "Stop the World, the Facsimile Script" and has produced several CD issues for members only on unreleased Anthony Newley recordings. All the Society merchandise is exclusive and limited edition release.

If you still have a videotape player, it's available under a different title at Amazon.

(Don't know if it's the chopped up version, though.)

Several reasonably priced used ones and one absurdly-priced "VG/EX?" one too, if you're interested:

It seems as if the Reader's Digest productions are not centrally owned by anyone. TOM SAWYER (1973) and HUCKLEBERRY FINN (1974) reside with MGM since they were distributed in the U.S. by United Artists. MR. QUILP (1975) was distributed in the U.S. by Avco Embassy, which should place it with StudioCanal.

Elmer Bernstein also scored another Reader's Digest film after MR. QUILP. That was 1976's THE INCREDIBLE SARAH. It's unclear who may have released that one in the U.S.

Amazon lists the Embassy VHS as running 118 minutes, which is the only time given by the IMDB for the film. Where did the editing come in?
