I was just playing the "Source Code" soundtrack and realized that I had never heard of Chris Bacon before buying it. I happen to love "Source Code" and, after watching it several times, bought it on Blu-ray. And if I ever stumble across it while cable channel surfing, and whether it's in the beginning or middle or end, I have trouble NOT watching it. I thought that Jake Gyllenhaal did a terrific job and I always love Vera Farmiga, and the music is quite effective in the film and works outside of it too. Anybody have some info about composer Chris Bacon? Interestingly, he also did the music for Farmiga's "Bates Motel" as well as "Atlas Shrugged" and "Smashed" and more. Born in Provo UT in 1977, he's probably 36 or about to turn 36 as we start this on 9-23-13.

Bacon has worked with James Newton Howard for years.

He's really tall. He often works with James Newton Howard. His middle initial is, no kidding, P. He has a family: http://www.tarabblog.com/2011/08/photobucket.html

Too much information?

Source Code is a good one - bites o' Goldsmithian style in there if I recall.

Bacon was/is? an assistant, synth programmer, etc for James Newton Howard over
the past few years.

The other score of his people seem to like is Alpha & Omega, an animated film about wolves. The sequel recently came out or is coming out soon and was also scored by him.

mastadge: Too much info? Not at all. I had never heard of him before I bought "Source Code" when it first came out and, frankly, his name had dropped off my radar until today, when I started playing it again. Thanks!!!!!!!!

I enjoyed Bacon's socre for Source Code as well. "Frozen Moment" is a very moving track, imo. It makes the actual scene emotionally compelling, imo. I hope he gets more work in bigger projects.

Kev: Thanks! Fascinating. Before I started this thread, I had done a search for any mention of Bacon on discussions, and came up with nothing. Otherwise I probably would have gone to the one you gave us the link for and posted something there. (I guess it was because Bacon wasn't listed in the title.) But it's still nice to have a discussion devoted entirely to him. Thanks.
