Coming soon from Monstrous Movie Music... Nicholas Carras' THE DOLL SQUAD!

We'll be releasing six CDs in about a month, with this being the first to be announced.

THE DOLL SQUAD features Nick Carras' fun and exciting score from Ted Mikels' 1973 sexy girl spy adventure, which was supposedly the inspiration for CHARLIE'S ANGELS. Starring the delectable Francine York as Sabrina Kincaid, the leader of the Squad, the album's 50+ minutes of music includes great seventies action sounds, exotic melodies to enhance the site of their CuraƧao excursion, and spy music of various styles, including an homage to James Bond.

Although this is fun music all the way, the composer treated the subject matter (villian Michael Ansara's plan to take over the world using Bubonic plague) as if it were serious business. If you're familiar with Carras' work from earlier MMM CDs, THE DOLL SQUAD offers a whole new approach from this very gifted composer/arranger.

Special thanks go out to Miss York, Mr. Mikels, and the Carras family for helping to make what should be a very enjoyable release. As usual, the accompanying booklet will contains all sorts of information about the movie and the music, as well as photos you haven't seen anywhere else.

We'll post ordering instructions once the CD is released, but until then you can sample a smattering of some of the many themes and sounds of THE DOLL SQUAD in the medley below:

Coincidentally (probably not) THE DOLL SQUAD was just released on Blu-ray 2 weeks ago.

No, it's a coincidence. I have been planning this for quite some time, and only heard about the Blu-Ray release from Ted a couple of months ago. Oh, and Ted said the DVD print came from the camera negative, so not only will the quality be way better than the previous release (which is still pretty darn good), but it will have additional footage not in the other versions.

Will you discuss in the notes how the film came to be retitled SEDUCE AND DESTROY?

Sounds interesting, would be real nice if you can get WILLIAM GREFE'S DEATH CURSE OF TARTU-67- What a score that was.

Thanks. It's a fun score, that's for sure. Nice escapism music. It won't be ready on time for MMM's appearance at Monsterpalooza convention in Burbank, CA in a few weeks, but Francine York will be there with me and we'll take advance orders, and she'll be signing CDs once they're ready to go.

I hear vintage "wah-wah whacka-whacka" in this sample!

"I hear vintage wah-wah whacka-whacka in this sample!"

Absolutely! There is other wah-wah whacka-whacka in the score as well. And although the score is in mono, we are also including a stereo version of the "Main Title," where the wah-wah whacka-whacka just LEAPS out at you!

And to answer an earlier question, yes, the liner notes explain the other title, SEDUCE AND DESTROY.

Wow, six MMM CDs coming up! Any hints on the other five?

Some clues:

None of the other five will be THE DOLL SQUAD.

Two composers we've never done before, the rest are old favorite composers.

Two of the releases are 2-CD sets.

No sci-fi/horror in this batch, but the next batch will have some classic sci-fi/horror.

Some really good music heading your way.

None of the other releases will have that wah-wah whacka whacka sound in it.

Is that enough clues?

Ted Mikels was a very interesting man, how many wives did he have at one time?

I will ask him about his wives next time we speak.

As for how many westerns, there will be four in all. One from the 1940s, two from the 1950s, and one from the late 1960s.

"Wow! These two ladies still look very beautiful!"

Yes, and it wasn't my photographic skills that made them look that way. They are both very beautiful women. It would be hard to take a photo of them and to have them not turn out looking beautiful.
