who is looking forward to season 4?

Just curious, it is running on BBC at present?

I'm a DA fan, but my enthusiasm for Season 4 has been diminished after they killed off you-know-who in the season 3 ending car crash.

No, you're not alone. I concur about the death of you-know-who. It was not expected by me, and it rather puts a damper on how I see the series developing.

They've done an amazing job, thus far, so I'm ready for more!

Series: 4 of "Downton Abbey" starts, this coming Sunday, Sept 22nd, at 9pm, on ITV 1.
{It's not a BBC show)

It's six months later, and although some familiar faces are gone, there are plenty of new ones to keep us entertained.

Bring it on, Mr Carson !

Considering that the actor no longer wanted to be part of Downton Abbey, you can't really blame the creators for killing his character off.

Okay, then I blame the actor himself. big grin

It's a pleasure to watch this well written adult series with intelligent conversation, attractive scenery and actors that also doesn't have continuing explosions, wild car chases, over-brooding heroes, too loud music and most importantly.........no zombies , aliens or vampires for a refreshing change.
Just sorry we (U.S.) have to wait until next year for Season 4.

I am flying into Heathrow on the morning of the 22nd. Can someone pick me up at the airport???

Just kidding but how I wish I could! smile

Glad to see there's DA fan club.

If one knows how to use the internet, one can watch it the next day. I know I will!

Take a look at what Dan Stevens has done to himself, in order to escape from Matthew Crawley....

Oh I know how to use the internet. But after almost losing our cable service due my son streaming recently released movies (without mom's knowledge), I think I will wait for January!

I don't know, I have a hard time with British material. If is often too properly spoken, formal, and feels put upon. But then I have never understood the American interest or anyone's interest really, in the royal family in the slightest. It is an immensely boring topic.

In all fairness, "Downton Abbey" was supposed to be a one-season mini-series. None of the actors expected an extended run, season by season.

It was inevitable, IMO, that someone would want to move on to other things, and that's what happened here. Happily, the show's overwhelming popularity (and critical acclaim) is the best thing that has happened for many of the actors involved and they're returning.

It's a triumph for Hugh Bonneville, among others.

I knew since the actor was moving on that the bad ending was coming. Still, I love the show and look forward to Season 4.

I truly love this series. It's so refreshing to see an exquisitely produced, written and acted drama that works at an adult level rather than at the mostly adolescent level of today's theatrical movies. This show represents just one of many recent series (mostly on cable in the US) that makes today's TV fare far more interesting to me than most anything playing at the cinemas.

I was much more crushed by the demsie of Sybil, well, because I had something of a thing for her. A wee bit of heartbreak for me.

I really like John Lunn's score for the series as well, especially the urgent and emotionally driven main title music.

I've caught bits and pieces of various episodes (I believe it airs on PBS here in the US), but have yet to really sit down and check it out. I tend enjoy British period pieces, though.

And it's embarrassing, but I just now realized I had the title slightly wrong. I thought it was Downtown Abbey. LOL!

Here is a bit of speculation on my part for season 4. (Read if you have only seen season 3.)

What are the chances of Lady Mary Crawley, after a long period of grief, getting together with Tom Branson? Both now have lost their spouses and both have babies. Eh, I don't know. Part of the problem would be with Mary always seeing Tom as WELL below her station...but still.

I could barely get through the first episode. I gave it a shot but it didn't really interest me to keep watching. I wasn't particularly interested in the characters from what I saw in the first episode.

Three seconds was all I needed. It's the English trick of style over content; Peyton place in fancy dress. It started with Morse and England has successfully been riding that one trick poney ever since. It's the hypocrytical and perverse admiration the English writers (and probably most or the English) have whilst pretending to be against the class system. All bolshy and working class glorifier on the outside but deep down they gloat about the system "yeah that's us, and everyone envies us for it".
Bill Maher did a great item on that in his "new rules".
Just another fad to die and wither away.

D.S.

I guess you don't know much about writer Julian Fellowes, who is scarcely "bolshy."
