Well, I plan to buy it tomorrow when I place my order for the 3-CD set of "Wyatt Earp"!!! And I'd sure like to know if La-La-Land sold a lot of "True Grit" over the past week!

Re: That said, as much as I love Elmer Bernstein, a singer he is not! I wonder how he would feel about his singing the "True Grit" song being released to the public. And I strongly differ! Don't remember precisely what I wrote in my rather superficial review of each cue on the CD earlier in this post, but do remember that I found that Elmer had a surprisingly pleasant and rather endearing voice. Frankly, I love to hear composers (who aren't singers) singing their own songs, such as Harold Arlen singing a few duets with Streisand in an old recording, as well as Bob Merrill singing 5 of his songs from his show "Carnival" as bonus to the original cast recording of it on CD, which are absolutely delightful. Yes, not trained as a singer, but such fun to hear, and I feel the same way about Elmer and his song from "True Grit." And I happen to think that he would have been tickled to have it included as an extra on such a great recording of his music!

I wonder if a release of Laurence Rosenthal's sequel score to "Rooster Cogburn" could ever happen. I realize that Rosenthal is not what you'd call a big seller, but I'd buy it! (So there's one.) Oooops, wrong message, my apologies!

I'm going to have my first listen now and the first track I'm going to play is the Elmer vocal, what an unexpected treat, a big thanks to LLL for this wonderful release!

Re: I have the Tadlow recording and I love it, but how does the original recording compare? Was curious to get people's thoughts who have had a chance to listen to this release already. moviescore1: I've now had the 2-disc L-L-L recording of "True Grit" for a few weeks -- I was one of the first here to receive it, since I'm just a hop skip and jump away from them -- and have really enjoyed it. But your posting (as well as others) about the Tadlow modern recording convinced me to include it in an order to Intrada for "Cahill: U.S. Marshall." So I'm going to be ODing on 'Grit and Elmer Bernstein!

MusicMad: Re: "My copy, recently received, is only a single disc ..." Then it must not be the La-La-Land Records version. Right? MY MISTAKE. IT IS A SINGLE DISC. SORRY.

Mitch: I was totally wrong. I have bought sooooooooooo much music over the past month, including lots of multi-disc sets (like L-L-L's "Wyatt Earp), and the L-L-L "True Grit" was so chock full of extras that I somehow got it into my head that it was a 2-CD set. That's one of the problems of downloading CDs as soon as you buy them and only accessing them from your iPod or computer and often not pulling the actual CDs out again. Very sorry about that.
