In early 2012, there was a Kickstarter for the video game The Banner Saga. One of the funding levels went "directly to help fund an all-out, full orchestral score for the game, recorded in a live studio!" The game's production has been going on for a while, but the score's been recorded over quite a long time this year according to my understanding, and finally we're getting our first preview of the soundtrack:
However, I hope they offer a physical soundtrack for the score. If I remember correctly from the kick starter campaign only the highest (or second highest $150 approximatly) are going to receive a physical cd of the score.
I thought about donating at that level but couldn't justify spending that much on a soundtrack I haven't fallen in love with. I guess time will tell if I chose poorly ;-)
"The Banner Saga", and there was I thinking it was about the Hulk's alter ego. That's what you get you Anglo Saxons with that silly habbit of capital first letter at every word.

Not every word! Articles and some prepositions and conjunctions are exempt!
I got the email myself a little bit ago. Listening to the samples right now and going to pre-order in a moment as I really like what I'm hearing (but then I always expected I would)
These samples are fantastic. I don't mean to praise it only by comparing it to something else, but one of my favorite scores is RAVENOUS and this has some of that same eerie, haunting momentum.
Bought this in Apple Lossless yesterday from Bandcamp. Holy crow, this is tremendous. "Of Our Bones, the Hills" is going to be the action cue of the year.
My first impression upon buying this is it is far too dark for me to enjoy repeatedly. Of course I understand why certain choices were made for the style of the music considering the dark tone of the game. Perhaps it will grow on me over time.
Downloaded this from the much-appreicated Bandcamp link (where it is almost $2 less than iTunes, and partial proceeds go towards an educational benefit!!) and I have just finished my first listen. I love it! Very engaging stuff and quite fresh and original for a video game score. I look forward to when the game becomes available on PSN or for the iPad.
