Interestingly we are reissuing an album (next year) that first came out in the 80s and the three-track were not folded down properly, resulting in everything shifting to the center. While it's not mono per se, much of the stereo separation is gone. This same master was reissued a couple of years ago. We're remixing to restore the proper stereo balance. (Same issue that happened with Perseverance's MUTANT...people were complaining it sounded like mono. It wasn't, but whoever remixed the three track for got an important detail so the center channel was dominant).

The Fruit Machine, Burning secret - Hans Zimmer??
Got a partial reissue in 2006 but without the short track Diamond Skulls so just a wild guess.

Hmmm, I don't know of any issues with the sound with Prometheus' KING SOLOMON'S MINES but since it is OOP for a while now it might be a candidate for Intrada.
Or maybe even Quartet.

That wasn't the same master.

I do hope Richard Band's Mutant will get a decent expansion to rectify that error.

All that seems to be coming out now are rehashes of former releases, with various details "improved."

Makes me thing they're running out of things to release.

The bigger soundtrack companies seem to have no interest in anything Golden Age anymore.

So, looks like it's going to be yet another string of reprints. (I had no interest in a reissued RIO CONCHOS that only had about 52 seconds of music in addition...)

Makes me think the whole soundtrack business is simply drying up.

Well you obviously haven't been paying attention then.

And boy, have I lost patience with selfish whiners who seem to think that if they already own something, it's unworthy of rerelease for anybody.

I encourage you to have all of your feelings.

They're good for you.

Not having been a child of the 80's, I'm not nearly as attached to scores from that period as many on this Board.

But, neither do I criticize those who love them, unlike many of you, who bandy about judgment and criticism like rainfall.

I'm just tired of being expected to pay yet again for yet another re-release of something.

Makes me wonder if they're just running out of material.

But who ever said you were expected to do this?

Would they love you to buy everything they release? Sure, why not? But expected? That's the part I don't get.

No, but there's been quite a few releases I missed out on because I didn't start really getting into the game until 2009. I was able to purchase the ones I missed out on once they were reissued. There's new comers to the soundtrack world all the time, so I don't see a problem with it. And if it makes them money, why wouldn't they do it? They're a business, a business has to make money.

If you were in their shoes, wouldn't you do what makes you money?

I find it incredible how many people forget this little nugget.

I too, grow tired and annoyed by self centered posts like the above (no surprise it is from a Golden Ager who are far and away the biggest group of whiners on this board, bar none).

It simply blows my mind how these people fail to understand their are NEW collectors (such as myself) discovering this hobby everyday. These re-releases are actually new for us. And no the labels aren't running out of material they simply recognize that re-releases are still very profitable. There is CLEARLY a market for them (despite what some of the naysayers would lead you to believe) as evident by the recent Poltergeist II & The Delta Force. Both were lightning fast sellouts. So get used to it or find a new hobby.

Why should he be concerned about that? They make more money than ever before.

As is often the case, if the labels did a proper job of mastering in the first place, further expenditure wouldn't be necessary. In the case above, Intrada says an incompetent release of as recently as two years ago, is now about to be done properly. So someone would be justified in lamenting the fact that he is having to buy the same title two or even three times before he can get a CD that is properly mastered. I share his frustration.
The announcement that a disc is being re-done and needs to be purchased again because the person working on the previous ones needlessly screwed up and "forgot an important detail" can be viewed as good or bad news, depending on how one looks at it.

From my perspective, the labels can put out all the re-issues they want. It's good for those collectors who missed out on something they wanted the first time around. It's good for the labels as they
can make more money on a title which can then be turned into new
never before available releases. It's good for me, if I've missed a title
I wanted or if there is noticeable improvement in sound or significantly more music on the re-issue than on the first edition. If it's something I have, but I need or want an upgrade, I can buy it; and if I am satisfied with my copy, I can pass on the re-issue and save money. Everybody wins.

But how about those late into the game who wanted a shot at said release? No one is making you buy the brand new copy. There's no weapon to your head. They're simply marketing to fresh new buyers and improving on things where possible along the way. If you were in their shoes, you'd probably do the same if the money was right.

They can say, "Well this one is better sounding, so it's the new complete edition!" but it's up to you if you want to buy into that or not. It's really nothing to grow tired of. These are marketing technique's that have been used in everything for centuries. These releases are grand for ones like me who didn't start till 2009 and didn't have good funds to really start buying all I wanted till 2012.
