When I went to the movies a lot (in the 90s), I always went with several friends, or at least one friend. These days I mostly see films on TV.

As a teenager just getting into films, a big gang of us all used to go together (I was mates with one lad in our gang and he had an older brother who had his gang of older mates, but we all went together). When that kind of dwindled, I got real pally with one of the older gang (who was a huge film fan) and we started to see everything together, as all the others fell by the wayside. When he upped and moved to London with his girlfriend, I had a long period of seeing films on my own (usually catching the tea-time showings in town straight after work) until I met another gang of mates who were big film fans too. These days, it's down to just two again (me and one other mate who also loves the cinema). The main problem we have is he's still a huge horror film fan and I've grown really bored of the newer horror films (remakes, reboots, whatever) and I can't be doing with them anymore, but he can usually drag some others to go along with him. I've never had a problem of seeing a film on my own but me mate seems to have a bit of a hang-up about it. He dragged me to see Mama a while back and I was bored shitless by it, so it'll be awhile before I bother with any shit new horror film. He tried for The Conjuring recently but I'd already seen that film from what I saw of clips and the trailer. I've had a girlfriend for over 20 years now and she hates going the cinema, although she has come along on the odd occasion, her most recent trips being for Now You See Me and Crazy Stupid Love.

Seeing movies and concentrating on them can be a very personal thing in which I feel one should not be too distracted. However even though I have seen many films on my own over the years I have also seen a large amount with girlfriends and at times years ago with family members[groups]fond memories. What I liked to do in years past was if I saw a film I really liked I then would get people I know to see it with me after I have seen it alone. I always get a kick out of a virginal viewer watching a film with me that I loved and see there reaction. Well maybe that makes sense since I did make films as well.
