Yeah, I know this sounds like a loaded question but I mean, in your life have you gone to the movies mostly by yourself?, with one other person[lover or best friend] or usually with a group of people?

By myself. I go to movies with others when invited, and there's something to be said for seeing a movie as part of an audience -- the experience can really make or break a movie. But really I prefer to watch a movie much like I read a book -- to immerse myself in it, alone. Movie-going is not generally a social experience for me.

I hate going by myself. Sometimes I do because I have no choice, but I much prefer going with somebody. Nothing I loved more than when I was in high school, and every Friday after class some friends and I would pile in the car and drive to the theater to see the newest release. These days, I usually see things with my brother, and it's just more fun than seeing something by myself. We have fun talking about it afterward on the drive home.

Type O-Negative. No, seriously.....

Mostly by myself because I will go to see only the films I am enthusiastic about. When going with others you sometimes get dragged to films you would never attend on your own or have little interest in. Halloween III - Season of the Witch and The Doors are examples of films I would not have seen on my own but occasionally you have to make your girlfriend happy. smile

I see 95% of my movies by myself...no friends, and the family is always too busy. frown

Depends on the decade. Before I was 18 usually went with friends or family. Over 18 I happily went by myself. (Think it was the whole independence thing) Late in life I've lost interest in going to the theater and usually have to be "dragged" there. Saw a few films with co-workers such as Titanic and Final Fantasy.

When I went to the movies a lot (in the 90s), I always went with several friends, or at least one friend.

These days I mostly see films on TV.

A former one ... frown

As a teenager I went most weeks, sometimes twice and would try films simply because of the star(s) but often based on the TV or newspaper reviews.

The last five films I've visited the cinema to watch have been the three Daniel Craig JB007 adventures/thrillers, x2, x2, x1.

I can't envisage me going again ...

Mitch.

As a teenager just getting into films, a big gang of us all used to go together (I was mates with one lad in our gang and he had an older brother who had his gang of older mates, but we all went together).
When that kind of dwindled, I got real pally with one of the older gang (who was a huge film fan) and we started to see everything together, as all the others fell by the wayside.
When he upped and moved to London with his girlfriend, I had a long period of seeing films on my own (usually catching the tea-time showings in town straight after work) until I met another gang of mates who were big film fans too.
These days, it's down to just two again (me and one other mate who also loves the cinema).
The main problem we have is he's still a huge horror film fan and I've grown really bored of the newer horror films (remakes, reboots, whatever) and I can't be doing with them anymore, but he can usually drag some others to go along with him. I've never had a problem of seeing a film on my own but me mate seems to have a bit of a hang-up about it. He dragged me to see Mama a while back and I was bored shitless by it, so it'll be awhile before I bother with any shit new horror film. He tried for The Conjuring recently but I'd already seen that film from what I saw of clips and the trailer.
I've had a girlfriend for over 20 years now and she hates going the cinema, although she has come along on the odd occasion, her most recent trips being for Now You See Me and Crazy Stupid Love.

Seeing movies and concentrating on them can be a very personal thing in which I feel one should not be too distracted. However even though I have seen many films on my own over the years I have also seen a large amount with girlfriends and at times years ago with family members[groups]fond memories. What I liked to do in years past was if I saw a film I really liked I then would get people I know to see it with me after I have seen it alone. I always get a kick out of a virginal viewer watching a film with me that I loved and see there reaction. Well maybe that makes sense since I did make films as well.

I usually end up going with one or two friends. Sometimes with just my fiance, other times with him and a few friends. Sometimes my friends mom joins us and sometimes my mom joins us. I have no problem going alone though, and sometimes i do go to the cinema alone to see a horror movie that nobody else wants to see.

I'm getting tired of the cinemas though. All the commercials and junk before the trailers start, plus 20 minutes of trailers before I can watch the actual film I'm there for. Then you have people who are noisy during the film and inevitably two or three people who pull out their phone during the movie. I can mostly avoid all that if I wait for the film to come out on DVD and watch it at home. Plus it is much cheaper.
