FRIDAY, AUGUST 23

SUPERMAN VS. BATMAN---Warner Bros. confirmed Ben Affleck will star as Batman in the untitled sequel. Director Zack Snyder said, "Ben provides an interesting counter-balance to Henry's [Cavill] Superman. He has the acting chops to create a layered portrayal of a man who is older and wiser than Clark Kent and bears the scars of a seasoned crime fighter, but retain the charm that the world sees in billionaire Bruce Wayne. I can't wait to work with him."

THOR: THE DARK WORLD---new photos released from the sequel.

PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN 5---the official title for the fifth movie in the series is PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES. The script is by Jeff Nathanson (CATCH ME IF YOU CAN).

THE HUNGER GAMES---Natalie Dormer will play Cressida in MOCKINGJAY PART 1 and 2.

THE EXPENDABLES---Sharni Vinson (YOU'RE NEXT) has joined the cast of Gina Carano and Katee Sackhoff in the all-female spin-off movie.

RAMBO---Sylvester Stallone's representatives denied reports he might star in the tv series based on the popular movie series, "While a television series based on the Rambo property is in development with Entertainment One and Nu Image, contrary to reports, Sylvester Stallone will certainly not reprise his role as the iconic John Rambo for the small screen." Stallone might be involved in a "creative" capacity.

NORTH AND SOUTH---Discovery Channel miniseries remake of the 1985 ABC miniseries based on the John Jakes Civil War novels. The original miniseries starred Patrick Swayze, James Read, Lesley-Anne Down, Kirstie Alley, Elizabeth Taylor, Jimmy Stewart, Robert Mitchum and Hal Holbrook. Jakes is executive producer.

ARROW---Navid Negahban (HOMELAND) will play villain Al-Owal, a member of the League of Assassins, in season 2.

BAYWATCH: RED TIDE---Paramount Pictures has hired the RENO 911 team of Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant to write the script for the movie based on the tv series. Garant will also direct.

UNBROKEN---Domhnall Gleesan (HARRY POTTER), son of Brendan Gleesan, and Finn Wittrock (ALL MY CHILDREN) have joined the cast of the World War II movie based on the book about Olympic track star Louis Zamperini who spent 47 days at sea in a life raft after his B-24 bomber crashed and then became a POW. Angelina Jolie is the director.

IN THE HEART OF THE SEA---Peter Morgan (THE QUEEN, FROST/NIXON) will rewrite the script for the Ron Howard movie based on the true story of a whaling ship that was sunk by a sperm whale. The surviving crew members resorted to cannibalism in order to survive. The incident was the inspiration for Herman Melville's MOBY DICK.

TO BE TWO---Casey Affleck stars in this sci fi movie set in the future where teleportation allows people to transport from Earth to Mars, but a malfunction causes one man to exist on Earth while his teleported duplicate exists on Mars.

VIRGINS OF AMERICA---US remake of the British movie series in which four young guys travel to Greece for sex and fun.

Too close to Dead Man's Chest.

I miss the good old numbering system, 2,3,4. I can't keep straight which film is which, what came second, third, etc. I can never remember the order of the Matrix films!

I can never remember the order of the Matrix films!

I think it goes like this: The Matrix, the awful cringe inducing Matrix sequel, the even worse Matrix sequel if you can believe it.

I kid, I joke, cause I love. big grin

DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES

Not knowing anything about the plot of the fifth movie or the relevance of the title, I really appreciate the subtitle for being a line straight from the dialogue of the theme park ride.

About time this franchise got a new writer. Hopefully they get a good story with this one.
Maybe they can bring someone else for the music too? If RCP is the only option then I'd love to hear Henry Jackman or Harry Gregson-Williams' take on this.

DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES

Well since all the films feature deadman who are up walking, talking, and fighting, I would say telling tales is no great feat for them making this a pretty dumb title.

Based on his track record (Speed 2: Cruise Control, Rush Hour 3, Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull), probably not.

Natalie Dormer is amazing so anything she is in I support.

I think a North & South remake could turn out good so I'm willing to give it a chance. The original was really good except I hear season 3 was so bad I never watched it.

Well of course part of the class of the original Books 1 and 2 of North and South was the Conti scores. I hope they do Book 3 right this time.

I can't see them topping that cast or Conti's score. If the reviews are good, I'll consider buying the DVD.

It has been announced that this movie will be filmed at the massive Pontiac Film Studio not too far from my law office. smile

The last big budget film shot there was OZ The Great and Powerful.
