I would love to hear Maestro's Horner side of the story.
Would it be as juicy as his TROY and NEW WORLD interview with our man Dan S? Love it when James just let's loose.
If anyone knows of any such interviews, please post.
Thanks.
I posted this a few days ago on Filmtracks, but since you mentioned his past interview with Daniel Schweiger, and because I feel like it is important to address this (as it pertains to people who decry Horner as a temperamental, supercilious asshole), I will post it again here:
"James Horner said this [his remarks regarding Gabriel Yared, Terrence Malick, and Wolfgang Petersen] close to eight years ago. Opinions are allowed to change, and he has mellowed quite a bit since then. Here's an interview where you can hear how much his views have change:
If you don't feel like listening to the entire thing, here are a few excerpts, along with the times during which Horner utters them, which reflect his contemporary mindset:
'...I'm in no position to say - I'm not a god - I'm in no position to say that person's music is junk, but mine's good.' - 6:48
'Who am I to say that their music is any less valid than Michael's music is for Up?...one is a much more conventional score, and reads to the general population as a much more conventional, sweet, melodic score. The other one reads as...sort of suspenseful background music.' - 8:55
'...I'm very cautious to make talent judgments.' - 10:56
What I find interesting, though, is that many people on this, and other film music forums, do the exact thing that Horner now refuses to do..."

Thank you for sharing this - I found the whole thing quite fascinating!
Horner doesn't exactly do a lot of interviews. He's said he's not had any rejectedd scores before (yet he is the one, personally, holding back "Young Guns" from release), and considering what he said about Yared those years back, he may not be too keen on doing an interview about or being asked about, R&J.
I mean, I could try, but I have a feeling I'll have a better chance playing Pick-Up Sticks with my butt cheeks.
