For anyone that wants a small taste of the wonder that is 1864:

http://www.marcobeltrami.com/1864

It doesn't get more intimate, soothing, and gently attractive than "1m6 Lakeside" which features the project's main theme. Shades of I am Dina in "8m14 Peter Comes Home".

Splendid news! It's a great time for Beltrami fans smile

I remember that Mikael Carlsson tried to release the score for Vikaren (aka The Substitute) and got a negative answer from the rights holder, unfortunately. He got luckier this time. Good for us!

And thanks to Lokutus for posting the episodes from 1864. The show's very beautifully shot.

I watched the miniseries and enjoyed it quite a bit. This miniseries was planned as a film as well which is getting released next year with some scenes not in the miniseries. Beltrami's music was good and that first part of the main theme really evokes the innocence and love between Laust, Peter and Inge. Lakeside is my favorite piece.

Just played through this on spotify, and while, overall, it wasn't as BIG or EPIC as I expected it to be, I do think the Main Theme is one of the best things I've heard by Beltrami.
I do enjoy many previous scores by MB, but have always felt his weakness is (was) in supplying truly memorable themes that go beyond the film/CD experience.
More recently (certainly with Soul Surfer, Don't Be Afraid of the Dark and 1864) I think his theme writing abilities are certainly growing.
I will be adding this CD to my collection in the New Year, if only for that Main Theme (and to support the label, who deserve much gratitude).

Just got my CD in the mail from Screen Archives today!

Such a relief and a blessing that this was released by MovieScoreMedia, it would've been a horrid shame if it had slipped through the cracks. Even though 59 minutes is just a small sampling of the 215 or so minutes from the show, it really does feature the most vital, integral, and just plain best cues on CD. Gorgeous, unabashedly thematic stuff. Light on action (hardly any), heavy on delicate passages, grand themes, and haunting melodies.

Thank you MSM!

Has anyone else picked this up? Any comments on the score? I'm surprised that there is barely any conversation over this beautiful music. Maybe the majority of the fans of this score, on this board, are the ones who read posts rather than post posts...

So far I've heard the album only once or twice and there isn't anything missing, I would particularly need to have - at least as far as I can remember - the music in the show was actually quite repetitive and the opening is always the same, then short recap of the previous events had always the same music and closing of first 5 (of 8) episodes also included the same music...

The score is of course very good and I am VERY happy to have it! Now if only there was any chance to see THE DROP finally released (perhaps it could be combined with TRUE STORY on a single CD later this year?) and fortunately last year wasn't that disastrous with only TURN and THE DROP scores unreleased. Hopefully we'll get at least the same number of CDs this year as well - although with STILL no release of SEVENTH SON announced, I am not overly optimistic.

For the recap, this year we should have:

WOMAN IN BLACK: ANGEL OF DEATH - released already by VARESE
SEVENTH SON - released throughout Europe, opening in US on FEB 5 - still nothing announced
THE COUP - opening early March
THE GUNMAN - opening late March
TRUE STORY - released yesterday at Sundance, limited release in April
FANTASTIC FOUR - released in early August
HITMAN: AGENT 47 - released in late August

What a beautiful score! One of Beltrami´s gentlest scores, I imagin.

Highly recommended!

Glad to hear JJH, Kev, WGNBG, and Lokutus enjoying the score. It's been out for awhile now and was curious if anyone else has picked up this lovely work on CD or digital? Any new fans of the score?

I have a strong suspicion that it has flown so low below the radar that so many film score fans will accidentally and sadly miss out on this epic and gorgeous work.

I do lament that lack of conversation on new Beltrami releases, but of all of them I find this score to be the underdog and hope that it finds some loving owners sometime soon...

Have just watched the two hour film version and what a stunning production it is. Spectalular, though horrifying battle scenes set during the Danish-Prussian War and a sad love story make this a remarkable watch. Thankfully the film ends on a note of hope. Beltrami's score is perfect.

Highly recommended.

While a respectable dramatic effort, my biggest gripe with this one, as with the majority of scores for period dramas written these days, is that they're not the least bit idiomatic.

The events covered in this mini-series occurred 157 years ago in Denmark. But you wouldn't know that from listening to this.
