Marco Beltrami has signed to score upcoming TV series 1864 directed by Ole Bornedal, which is currently considered the most expensive Danish TV production ever.

Here is a little quote from the director: “1864 was a fateful year for Denmark. The nation lost the Battle of Dybbøl to the Prussians and, in turn, two thirds of its land and population, 5,000 troops and a good measure of self-respect. The ignominious defeat became a national trauma that can still make Danes feel small”.

Some incredible still from the series can be seen here: http://twitchfilm.com/2013/07/ole-bornedal-helms-denmarks-most-expensive-television-series-ever-check-first-stills-from-period-war-gallery.html

The series is currently in production should be released in 2014 in Denmark. Specific and international dates still need to be announced.

Bloody hell!!! I thought he'd died real early when I first saw this thread!
Phew!
He obviously lived to a ripe old age, but it's still too soon to say goodbye! smile

Great. Glad to see Bornedal back out of Hollywood, and back with Beltrami. Can't wait to see how this turns out!

I am really looking forward to this project.

Is there any new information out there? Since it was announced a while ago I am curious to know whether the whole (or a part of the score) has already been recorded.

Thanks for sharing.

Thought he'd died? Born 1864? Marco would be setting a world record on age.

!!

The music used in this trailer is from Two Steps From Hell it seems (or to be more accurate, Thomas Bergersen) wink

But I guess of course it was mainly to show what the series is about, and not necessarily Beltrami's music... ?!

this is especially to show what the series will look like. I couldn't care less about Two Steps...
I doubt anything has been recorded yet.
I guess Deputy Riley might have some more info if the work on this one has even begun yet.

the pilot episode debuts right now on DR1 - damn it! It's impossible to watch online!
Is anyone watching and can comment on the show and the score?

Thanks Lok. I love that 2'26 theme clip you posted. What a great theme!
I started watching the episode - nice opening credit and also fun to see how they did that young Clark Kent 'running over the wheat' F/X sequence from the old Donner Superman film wink - but without any subtitles, it's lost on me.
I'm sure BBC or Channel 4 will screen the series soon enough (Skandi drama is a BIG DRAW at the mo in the UK) so I will get to see AND read it then.
Keep us posted if you locate a CD release. I think I would buy this one just based on those clips.

From 54'44 to the end of the first episode (the bit where they show you upcoming bits from the next episode plus the credits) you can hear that great main theme without the woman talking over the second half of it.

I wish... unfortunately that's not happening any time soon... unless some miracle happens first, but it doesn't seem very likely. At least you can check selections from first two episodes on my MB website... I will definitely add selections from remaining 6 episodes as soon as they have aired... since that's probably the only chance we'll ever have to hear the score...

The music in the show is just getting more and more interesting (and much darker and bit more experimental too). Sadly it seems that Marco didn't have as big orchestra as he should have had for some bigger moments, but there are some very interesting ideas in the "battle" music - like long notes on muted trumpets not playing in unision but always slightly off/detuned/processed giving the music kind of twisted otherworldly feeling. Very interesting (and together with images pretty strong) stuff...
One of the main themes - the theme for the two guys and the girl is also getting twisted a bit in episode 4...
I will try to post usual video selections from episodes 3-5 soon...
Last night's episode was especially strong... and finally the show is actually getting pretty damn good too... can't wait to see and hear remaining 3 episodes.
