Really - no comments on such a great soundtrack. Since November 2003! Nothing!? Okay so the source material was not the greatest - I love this Bernard Herrmann classic.

Yes,a gem of a score only marred by poor quality acetates and its the best what FSM could do but still grateful for it. I would champion a full fledge COMPLETE re-recording of this score. Granted a suite exists from Silva Screen records and that Herrmann BATTLE OF NERETEVA has some cues - the notorious Death Hunt cue reprised in the new re-recording.
I would also champion a re-recording! It definitely deserves one.

Sure there have been! Just not linked from the CD itself. I believe this CD predates the FSM site's ability to do that.

I love this score. And I love this CD. How about that?
Although I can listen past the quality issues with the source, the quality issues are nevertheless present, so I would love for there to be a new, faithful recording of this score.
As I don't think it will ever happen, then I say again: I love this score, and I love this CD.

Agree with all the above. Fell in love with this music after hearing the Charles Gerhardt recording on the Citizen Kane album. The brilliance of the performance shines through - despite the limitations of the source material (no worse than listening to some old 78 recordings) Congratulation to FSM for putting the cd together. Well recommended to anyone! Film's very good too.

The FSM CD is perfectly fine. I too love the score, more so after watching MUSIC FOR THE MOVIES, in which the viola d'Amore soloist was being interviewed.

Normaly I always prefer original recordings (even if the sound quality isn't so good) instead of re-recordings.
But a new recording of ON DANGEROUS GROUND would be very welcome.
I love the score (specially the romantic parts), and as an addition to the FSM CD I would love to hear the music in very good quality!
Maybe Tadlow will do it one day?!

A great CD for sure. Considering what was available to Lukas the sound quality is very good. I'm just happy to have it at all. Of course I would welcome a new recording too.

"Bernard Herrmann excitement! Following on our continuing series of successful re-recordings of film music with Maestro William T. Stromberg on the podium and myself tapping him on the shoulder every time we want more French horns in bar 27, we’re readying the scores and parts to two incredible scores Herrmann scored in the fifties: Alfred Hitchcock’s The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956) and On Dangerous Ground (1951). Only a brief portion of the Hitchcock score has been previously recorded, Now listeners will finally have all of the music Herrmann composed, including four minutes of music never-before-heard that was scored but then dropped from the finished film! And that “Prelude” is one of his most exciting with brass and tympani getting center spotlight. Some of the quieter cues with James Stewart searching for his kidnapped son are extraordinary as well. On Dangerous Ground of course features the ferocious “Death Hunt” which we’ll be doing replete with eight horns, six trumpets and trombones and two tubas! In balance are the numerous lovely passages for solo viola d’amore and strings. All-in-all an incredible array of Herrmann music. We’ll post the official Kickstarter goal and launch here in just a few days as we complete the session line-up requirements for this extraordinary recording event. We’ve got a nice track record with this series, thanks to the support from all of you!"

Of all the Herrmann scores that received releases but in less-than-ideal sound, IMO this was the most deserving of a brand new recording. Great news!
