Just got my WINDJAMMER stereo Columbia LP. Yep, everyone was right, the orchestral cuts are indeed in true stereo. It doesn't sound like it was close-miked, so you don't get really obvious left or right positioning of instruments most of the time, although there ARE noticeable moments when you do. It's mostly more of a large hall ambience.Too bad Sepia couldn't have latched onto these for their CD.

Re: Any info about this label?

I've bought lots of titles from them. They tend to specialise in re-issuing vintage vocal albums from the 50' - 60's. Click on their catalogue and you'll get the idea.

Sometimes, these are transcribed from the original discs, but the quality is always fine.

They are reliable and fast.

Any comments on the sound quality of this album, CH-CD?

George! Is that compilation available on CD? I remember that my LP of it is from United Artists and I bought a second very similar one with different music, and have been looking for both of them on CD since the 1980s! (I bought both LPs around the mid 60s!) Yes, they're hokey, with some Ferrante & Teicher and other covers, but I still have a sentimental attachment to them and would buy them in an instant!

I have the above CD that seems to be two LPs on the one CD. Good value. I have some of these tracks scattered around on 45s and old LPs from my young days so it was nice to get them all together..

It's enjoyable and reasonably well mastered, but the legal provenance of the source material is not above suspicion.

Re:

Seriously considered buying it at Sepia for L8.80 plus shipping, but then found it at Amazon USA for just $5.91 pus shipping, so I opted for Amazon. They may get "Windjammer" too.

I have a lot of Morton Gould recordings from him as a composer as well as a conductor, sometimes both. He conducts my personal favorite performance of Ravel's Bolero, which sounds quite thrilling with a great sound system. And his "Brass & Percussion," on SACD, is quite scintillating. Among his conducting of his own work, a mini-favorite is his "Sinfonietta 2," a little gem I've included on many a compilation.
