Inspired by an earlier post of mine, I couldn't resist this final scene from "Kings Row", aided and abetted by E.W. Korngold ('more korn than gold' as one critic said). But, seriously, it's a great movie and R. Reagan was half decent too!! Bob Cummings ran the whole emotional gamut from A to B and in this scene I'm not really convinced by the poetry. But, the film is one hellova ride!!

An uncle went to a Sydney University session years ago on Screenwriting and Casey Robinson was the guest. He was asked how he managed the adaptation for "Kings Row". He said he went out on San Francisco bay one afternoon on a boat cruise and wanted to finish reading the book, finally hurling it overboard and starting himself from scratch. Of course, the subject of incest/sexual abuse was unconvincingly glossed over.

I see you've made the same mistake as I made when ripping the Korngold themes to my PC ...

... as a lady of education you have written "King's" whilst the Film title is specifically "Kings".

I know ... it looks wrong! smile

I don't recall having ever seen the film; I like the two recordings (both: Gerhardt ~ NPO) I have of the Main Title and hope, one day, to get the score.

I watched it very recently. I'd seen it years ago when just a kid and it left a big enough impression that I hadn't really needed to see it again in a hurry. But it was worth a watch because the subject of close-knit socially graded community life became fleshed out that bit more. The music hits really hard.

The final 'breakthrough' of Ronnie Reagan laughing at the 'superior intellect' is, no doubt, the bit everyone remembers from this movie.

I frequently seem to make these kinds of mistakes - senior's moment. Somebody chided me the other day because I wrote 'it's' when it should have been 'its' and definitely not a contraction!! I was 3am the day I wrote that!!

Thanks for drawing my attention to the mistake and I'll have to proof read more carefully in future. As we get older we seem to have problems with spelling too - I never had this issue before in my life, but these days I often have to think twice about many words. American spellcheck does my head in too!!
