Anyone have any suggestions as to what the Barry release might be? Howard The Duck is a Disney property, I think. The movie's Universal. That is true, it is more that UMG would be involved as Universal only distributed the film. Given that the copyright notice is entirely to Universal (unlike with the Star Wars and Indiana Jones movies/TV shows, which are all Lucasfilm), I think they had more to do with it than just distributing. Otherwise it wouldn't have cost several executives their jobs... Without having any inside knowledge whatsoever, I'm sure this one is very convoluted. On the one hand, both Marvel and Lucasfilm are now owned by Disney. But the rights to their properties are entangled in deals made years ago. That's why if you're in Orlando, you'll find Marvel rides not at Disney World but at Universal Studios Theme Park. UMG (Universal Music Group) is now a completely separate company from Universal Studios; they share only the name and the logo. So if you want to expand a score from a Universal film released on a Universal label, you are dealing with two companies that happen to have the same name. So you have a character owned by Marvel (but ancillary rights to products featuring that character are not necessarily owned by Marvel), a film from Universal in association with what's now a division of Disney, originally released on CD by MCA (now UMG). Oh, and I believe Thomas Dolby was a Capitol Records artist at that time, and I have no idea what rights (if any) they retained to his work. And all that said, who knows if the deals made for all of these things have lapsed or are still in effect? So I doubt it's remotely as easy as saying that it's "a Disney property." Obviously, all these things can be worked out (usually), but they're very convoluted and take time and money. And at the end of the day, you'd be able to release the score for a bomb that most of the people involved would rather forget. But again, I have absolutely no inside information on this, and it's always possible that all rights to this music somehow are owned by a guy named Phil who has the master tapes under his sink in his house in Encino.

That means there's a good chance for: Paul Smith - The Three Lives of Thomasina George Bruns - Love Bug / Herbie Rides Again Johnny Mandel - Escape To Witch Mountain Johnny Mandel - Freaky Friday Ron Goodwin - One Of Our Dinosaurs Is Missing Ron Goodwin - Candleshoe I'd also love to see: Lalo Schifrin - Return From Witch Mountain Lalo Schifrin - Cat From Outer Space Robert F. Brunner - Lt. Robin Crusoe, U.S.N Robert F. Brunner - Castaway Cowboy William Alwyn - Swiss Family Robinson William Alwyn - In Search Of The Castaways Buddy Baker - Treasure Of The Matecumbe Please oh please let Mandel's awesome Witch Mountain see the light of day. It's literally my earliest memory of music in film, and that main title still holds up. Fingers crossed!
