So is this Beltrami score going to get a physical release or is it going to be like Snowpiercer and Carrie?

No word yet, far too early I'm afraid.

Hey everyone, just heard the complete score recently and not one single person will be surprised to hear from me that it is AWESOME.

Where have I heard that before...? smile

True! But don't forget I quickly hastened to add: People know my enthusiasm for Beltrami's music around here so make of this comment what you will

...basically meaning people are thoroughly encouraged to dismiss me as stark raving bonkers. big grin

Snowpiercer did have a physical release. It is available at a very decent price there: http://www.yesasia.com/global/snowpiercer-ost/1033963173-0-0-0-en/info.html
(YesAsia offers free shipping worldwide if you add another $10 to your order, I can only recommend one of the recent Hisaishi CDs)

Carrie had a physical release too by Sony Classical in Europe. You can probably find a copy at a reasonable price on the Amazon marketplace.

Well, I hope that it is going to be exactly like Snowpiercer and Carrie, since both of them DID get pressed CD releases.

Still looks like a disaster.

the most important question is what will it sound like ;-)
Although I'll probably see the movie as soon as I'll be able to - just to hear the score in context and to hear all of it...

It's such a rousing, epic fantasy score with (as usual for MB) great themes. Also, it's the closest to a rich, symphonic John Williams-type sound we've ever heard from Beltrami, which is just one of the reasons that make this score unique and great. Some of the score sounds like it could have come from darker parts of Harry Potter crossed with Goldsmith's 13th Warrior.

Huge choir!

I agree, but I am definitely excited to hear what Beltrami has cooked up for this one. DeputyRiley's description sounds like it's suited to my ears, and I'll be looking for the score's release date.

It is amazing how many hundreds of millions of dollars it takes to make a movie look like the exact same movie as thirty movies that preceded it.

Real of fake?
sounds more like trailer music rather than anything Marco would do...
awaiting the confirmation, though.

Says video has been removed by user.

Not a good indication it's legit.

I think it's sad that they just made the movie look like Clash Of the Titans/any generic action fantasy film. I've read the books that they are based on and the tone of it is more like Hansel & Gretel Witch Hunters as conceived by Tim Burton...

okay, that's a bad analogy but the book had a very spooky halloween ghoul filled atmosphere and to see that be replaced as a hard core Harry Potter/watered down 300 wannabe is sad...considering that it meant that Marco Beltrami could have crafted a loopy, dark and dramatic score instead of what's most likely going to be overblown action tracks. which isn't a bad thing persay as i find Beltrami's music fun even when it's just action, but for what could have been... well, one can dream

I would rather wait until we will get to hear what he actually recorded for the movie a year ago ;-)

I'm just finished running a test screening of an upcoming film called The Seventh Son. One of those last minute projectionist calls, where we don't know anything about the film until we see it.

Can anyone confirm if Marco Beltrami completed the score? What I heard doesn't sound like a temp track and sounded f'ing amazing to my ears. Like "Holy Sh*t, what an unexpected surprise!"

It's lush like some of the broad fantasy scores we used to hear. Some "Drums of War" samples here and there, but this effort is far from the droning, numbed out sound we've come to expect from post 9/11 films.

The score has Themes! Plural! Loads of strings and chorus. Imagine a cross between Hellboy and Debney/Kaska's LAIR!

Barring no changes, fans of old school, fantasy orchestral scoring will be happy!

It's the best score I've heard in years.

IMDB says the film is set for a February, 2015 release date. Looking forward to hopefully a 70+ min album. The cut screened today clocks in at 102mins and is scored nearly wall to wall, so the album's gonna need the full packing. The complete sound mix is just a bit overscored IMHO, but nicely balanced. It was nice to hear non-Zimmer textures under even some lengthy dialogue scenes. The whole score plays like a narrative we used to follow in film and album back in the day.

Looking forward!

You may have skipped over most (or all) of the content of this thread, wherein it was indeed discussed and noted that Beltrami finished recording the score nearly a year ago. I, too, in discussing the merits of the score, mentioned how outstanding the music is and how it's a bit dark parts of Harry Potter meets 13th Warrior, although the comparisons to Hellboy and Lair are apt. This is virtually Beltrami's first foray into full-on symphonic fantasy epic orchestral sweep, and it is truly glorious. Hope it doesn't get swept under the rug.
