Anyone ever used any? As relatives are growing few and far between (aside from the massive influx I've just had 'by marriage'), I want to start the process as some family have got so far, but I think there is far, far more...
So - any recommendations before I start paying?
I'm not sure if geographical location would be a major factor in choosing such a thing...complete newbie to it...but if it is, I would need a site that deals primarily with UK.
Whatever site you use, if it requires a monetary subscription, read the agreement carefully. If you give them a credit card number, they will automatically renew your subscription at end of initial period unless notified, whether you were satisfied or not. As a starter, many libraries have free (limited) access to several major genealogical sources.
EDIT: You might want to start with the website of the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints (LDS) (Mormons) which is said to have the largest genealogical collection on earth (for all countries). Their website is free: https://familysearch.org/ask/gettingStarted
