We all know that remakes have been made for many years. We all know that sometimes the remakes did so well that the producers decided to make sequels to the remakes.

However my question is: Have you ever heard of any movie that is a remake of a sequel where they did remade the second or third (or so) movie but not the first one. Let me take an example: What if someone decides to remake Gremlins 2 instead of Gremlins 1.

Hmm. Interesting question.

I'm drawing a blank, except for possibly a film that would obviously be a "spoof", not a remake, per se --- "Young Frankenstein", which, I believe is far more a parody/homage to a sequel, "The Bride of Frankenstein" than to the original "Frankenstein"...

Although Night of the Living Dead (1968) has been remade in 1990, 2004's 'Dawn of the Dead' is a remake of Night's sequel "Dawn of the Dead" (1978) and IMO the new Dawn of the Dead has little to do with Night nor its remake. So in a sense it is a direct remake of a sequel disregarding the original.

Star Trek Into Darkness is basically a remake of The Wrath of Khan.

Well it uses some elements from it but I wouldn't call it a 'remake'; Same way people say Rob Zombie's Halloween II is a remake of Halloween II, apart from the opening sequence it shares little in common with that sequel.

It's The Wrath Of Khan + Space Seed + Star Trek: Nemesis

Not very often and it's something that would have to be really looked into. However I was thinking where such attempts might be interesting REMAKE THE ROAD WARRIOR INSTEAD OF MAD MAX?

Funny that you mention Mad Max. I watched Mad Max on the telly just the other day and The Road Warrior is actually tonight. I have not seen Mad Max and The Road Warrior since the eighties.
