I think it would be lamentable to no longer have women`s breasts objects of eroticism and desire. Baring them in public as a matter of routine will bring that about. I therefore hope this "right" is not commonly exercised.

That's to take the Victorian slant again. There may have been belle epoch Edwardians who puffed out similar laments with their cigar smoke re the lifting of hemlines to ankle height.

But it's a stance that implies a sort of fetishistic conservatism: making sexual desire the defining factor. That is very Freudian 'civilisation stems from the sublimation of sexual desire' orientated. If one believed that, then the battle is already lost, since stuff like the internet has wrecked the susension of gratification for youth today by all appearances.

Well only the third makes any sense. What I MEAN is that smartphone keyboards are for midgets.

The thing is that the strict moralisers seem to be amazingly oblivious to the plain fact that the more you define as taboo on the body, the more you define as illicit desire. Or as a bloke called Paul of Tarsus said, sin enters by the law. They never understand that. 'The leaven of the Pharisees' as a certain other clued-up bloke called it.

"Sin enters by the law." Excellent quote. The very act of making the thing illegal is the thing that makes it 'sinful'. I agree. However I would argue that to a very real degree we *want* certain things to remain "sinful". Sex should be exciting.

I think improving attitudes re. sexuality is a deeper thing than mere public nudity. But in any event, I admit I am bound by my male desires, and I do not wish to remove the female breast from the realm of The Forbidden, or the erotic.

Question. Is it actually illegal for women to go topless in the USA? Like on a beach?

There are a few nudist resorts in different states where one can be topless or totally nude, but that's about it. Not only is it illegal to show your breasts it's illegal to show to much @ss. String bikinis are banned in states like Florida for example. Yeah the sunshine state with all the beaches!

As stated in the initial post, it is now legal for women to be publicly topless in 34 states. Find the link at http://gotopless.org/ for a chart showing which and where.
