After so long time (a thread started in 2013), this stunning release comes to warm our heart. Thanks to Bruce, here is not only a very sought-after score, but a "one-of-a-kind" that seems to make the pair with masterpieces as Sainton's MOBY DICK or Schumann's NIGHT OF THE HUNTER. Congratulation Bruce. You amazed us all. You worked silently while we were crying, complaining and asking for this CD release! OK. At this point I am sure that someday you will amaze us again with another gem, and I hope and wish it will be the original KINGS OF THE SUN by Elmer Bernstein. Can we hope? In the meantime you made our joy with this issue, and now we can listen for days, months and years to the wonderful music of ALFRED THE GREAT by Raymond Leppard, appeared on Kritzerland digital disc by popular demand of true film music lovers after five decades from the first LP release! It would be wonderful indeed if Kritzerland could manage to release "the original KINGS OF THE SUN by Elmer Bernstein". It is known that Elmer had a DAT recording of the original tracks in his possession so there is always some hope. In the meantime I very much look forward to Alfred The Great, by Ray Leppard! Thanks Bruce.

If Elmer had a DAT of Kings of the Sun why didn't he pursue a release of that rather than spending the time and expense to reconstruct and re-record the score? I'd thought the score was just lost. Yavar

What happened was Elmer Bernstein was going to release it on his own label, Amber Records... which he had used to put out that Charles and Ray Eames Volume 1 album that sadly never received the planned Volume 2 for the same reason: Elmer's untimely passing. Since Lukas was already negotiating with the Bernstein estate for rights to his Film Music Collection recordings from the 70s, and they also controlled the rights to his recent Kings of the Sun recording, Lukas (fortunately) saw an opportunity to get Kings of the Sun "out there" when otherwise it may have languished, unreleased, because Elmer wasn't around to do the work in releasing the recording. Yavar Hmm, now you explain it, I vaguely remember hearing something about that before. Seems a fine recording to me, except for maybe the Main Title being a bit leisurely in pace, which some people have complained about.

I agree with you on that, and it's one of the reasons I'd love a release of the original tracks (mono would be fine!) if they indeed exist or are discovered at some point in the future. Apparently Elmer's initial approach to that was even more leisurely, but (I think it was) James Fitzpatrick talked him into doing another take at a faster tempo, for the fans who he said would prefer it! After so long time (a thread started in 2013), this stunning release comes to warm our heart. Unusual, to bury the announcement of an excellent new release at the very end of an old thread from 2013. Some kind of new-fangled marketing tactic? It is. I just kept waiting for the people who always post every other label's releases here to do it. Funny, that didn't happen. It's doing just fine, thankfully.

I doubt that's because of any anti-Kritzerland animosity Bruce. It's frankly just been so long since you released a film score, I'll bet many people here who used to check kritzerland.com regularly stopped being in that habit until they're also into musicals! Someone would otherwise have to be paying attention specifically to this old thread to notice, and this is a thread that's probably not on many people's radar due to the obscurity of the film and the fact that it's the composer's only original film score. I'm really glad to hear it's doing well and I do plan to pick up a copy for myself before it sells out. As always I applaud you for paying attention to worthy stuff off the beaten path! Yavar
